Pregnant and chasing a toddler around in the heat- anyone else?!

This is an unashamed moan- my first as I love being pregnant and feel v grateful at the grand old age if 42 but this is toooo much! I enjoy summer but today it really is hot out there!
Am 36 weeks and Have not really found any coping strategies in the heat apart from

  1. persuade DH to do more around house in evening including picking stuff up off the floor
  2. stay inside till late pm - it's too hot to enjoy with toddler too
  3. nap when toddler sleeps
My energy levels have just dropped and haven't had a chance to pack hospital bag yet - eek!
Ah yes and been watching much more c Beebies than ever before!!
    Anyone else need a rant?!!

Just re-read that obviously I'm not pregnant with a 9 year old that would be very strange! I'm pregnant with a baby and I have a 9 year oldGrin

Your only hope is an air conditioned shopping centre or maybe Ikea. Maybe with another friend with toddler. I should know, had two pregnancies in tropical countries. It was awful! Spent most of my time in shoppingmall!

Totally feeling everyone's pain! I'm 28 weeks pregnant with a hormonal 9 year old, a tantruming 3 year old and a lovely but bloody heavy 10 month old. I'm in Cheshire and no thunderstorms yet, it's ridiculously hot I feel like I can't breathe :)

Just posted this on the wrong thread:

Goodness today has been a hot one. Me and the toddler have had 3 cold baths. We spent ages in Paperchase as they have very good air con. I had to stand reading all the cards while i cooled off.

We are now having the most loud and incredible storm. But somehow DS is sleeping thru it. I am having a weak shandy and watching the lightening.

I took DS to a toddler group this morning and he was a hot and bothered bugger. He snatched and ran around knocking into everyone/thing then had the most almighty tantrum trying to smash up the play kitchen. I got lots of kindly ladies coming over to head tilt and sympathise with being pregnant in the heat and looking after 'such a lively little chap'. He only slept for an hour too and then went to bed at 9.30. I'm knackered.

Swimming sounds gorgeous Tory. I may leave DS with DH and bugger off on my own in the morning.

Not a good day. Dd was much better behaved but I can't stop crying. Think it's just exhaustion and the heat. Really felt like I couldn't carry on earlier. Having some melted chocolate and off to bed soon.

It was a better day here, but that was because ds was with mil for the afternoon so I got to go swimmimg and then relax!

How did everyone get on today?! Had a slightly better day as a) discovered Tesco was the coldest place in the vicinity b) persuaded DH to rig up an umbrella over the paddling pool and DS decided it was funny to water my legs with his watering can!

I'm just getting thru each hour as it comes. But it's a bit like a man jumping off a building and saying 'so far so good' as he passes each floor. Soon i'm going to hit the ground/have to have the baby, and then it's going to be monumentally shambolic. I'm in denial massively and hoping if i ignore it all it will all go away.

I'm throwing out massive sympathies to everyone! Like the car a/c idea!!
DH due home soon about to slave over a hot stove. If he mentions the heat after being in an a/c office all day I think I'll eat his head!!!

To be fair, I had dd in May and we had to sit in the front of the house for about 3 months (hadn't moved in long before and front of house had no carpet, no chairs, no tv...nothing!) as it was the only cool place. I was fat from pregnancy and it was too hot to get out with a newborn so that wasn't great either! Grin
At least when this one comes it'll be getting cooler and I can hide my fat under sweaters and hopefully leave the house without melting.

Anyone else struggle to wash the dishes in this heat?! Confused

This was me last year. It was hotter as I live in the US but better as we have air con. During my first PG, back in London, I used to sit in the car with the air con on full, blasting my ankles! Can you try that? Option to strap in toddler and go for a drive? They usually sleep in the car?

I'm only 29 weeks but feel massive and am so hot and sweaty.
DS is 2.7 and loves to get out and be active, I've managed a lot of telly and cuddles today but not much else

I was feeling a bit sorry for myself being hot, 33weeks and having to work, but having read this I realise it could definitely be worse; can't imagine running anywhere today!

Note to self - try to have any future pregnancies at some other time of year...

Oops posted too soon! I have a hyper 16 month old who requires a lot of attention and doesn't yet get the 'entertaining herself'. She does enjoy tormenting our lively cocker spaniel though and generally causing me to get flustered. I am humongous and uncomfortable and have no idea how I am going to get through another 8.5 weeks!

Haha MrsKoala you made me laugh.
I have no idea what is going on either. I have a hyperactive 16 month

Oh you poor things. 39+6 here and been lying on bed, fan on, trying to get up energy to go stand in front of hot hob to cook meal for DH for when he gets in. Now feeling ashamed of myself for moaning about the heat when I've only had myself to look after all day! Annnnd I'm up.....

36 weeks with a 21-month-old...it's hard work and this is only my first week of maternity leave! DD is at nursery today (she's going one day a week while I'm off work) and I have relaxed a lot, as well as getting lots of stuff done in a much shorter time than if she was with me - but I have missed her so much! Will need to remind myself of that tomorrow when I am hot and bothered again...

'Only' 29 weeks here, ds is 2.10 and I've given in and he's playing on my iPad. We were out in the garden but even he thought it was too hot and asked to come inside - I was not disappointed!

I did tell him he could only play on the iPad for 10m, as told him where the clock hands would go to, but it's been half an hour now and I haven't summoned up the energy to take it off him even though he keeps pointing out that the clock has gone past the time!!! Oh well...... We had a fairly busy morning so I'll live with a slob out afternoon.....

i can't remember what to write in a birth plan. I have no idea what's going to happen. Got no idea what we are doing with the toddler. Just got no idea in general really.

i'm the crappiest mum going. DS is a very active 22mo and i am massive at 32wks. I can't take him out as everywhere is uphill. He's not a 'craft' type child and wont sit still so is just trashing the flat around me. No garden to play in :(

I haven't even thought of packing my bag - in fact i've completely forgotten every single thing about labour and i feel as tho this is my first. I have no idea what i'm doing. I'm just sitting here with dvds on like a hot blob.

33 weeks with a 14 month old .. Not too warm here thankfully so I feel for you all in England right now.

I still have the new baby's room to paint and do not trust my husband to do it . He is not in the least bit sympathetic to my 'condition' at all . Ugh!

39 weeks with a 22 month old. I'm in Scotland so it's not quite so hot, but more than hot enough for me! Also been watching ridiculous amounts of Cbeebies. This baby better arrive soon - dealing with 2 surely can't be harder than this!

I'm 39 weeks and for some reason booked my 4 year old in for a week of swimming lessons this week. I have just spent an hour sitting beside the pool in what can only be described as oven like conditions. My shirt was soaked through by the end of it. Thankfully only one more lesson to go tomorrow!
