18+3 and no movement

Just that really - tried calling midwife today but no luck and can't get in to see a GP to check heartbeat.

I was fine about it until everyone started asking and looking confused when I said I hadn't felt anything concrete yet. I've had little things but nothing that I can be certain of iyswim? Checked my 12 week scan notes and nothing about anterior placenta so just looking for some reassurance!

I'm 17 weeks and I think I can sometimes feel it moving when I'm lying on my stomach - just feels like little bubbles really and it's barely noticeable. At my 16-week appt, my midwife said it was perfectly normal not to feel anything till 18-20 weeks, but that I might feel it sooner because I'm so slim - apparently slimmer ladies sometimes feel movements earlier so (and I hope I'm not being rude here Hmm ), if you're not so slim, that could be another reason why you haven't felt anything yet.

Yeah I think they say if you haven't felt anything by 24 weeks that's when they'd start wondering why. 18 weeks is still early qaso if you do have an anterior placenta that would cushion babies kicks and baby might be facing inwards. It feels like a non painful muscle spasm sort of feeling. I used to find if I concentrated just on the baby and lie really curled up in a ball on my side I'd feel it.

I always felt movements first in the bath.. if I ever had a few hours without movement, I would get in the bath with a cold drink... worked every time :)

Just wanted to pop back on and say that all was well at the doctors today - found heartbeat and he said it's far too early to expect to feel anything concrete so that's fine. We spoke a bit about my anxiety too, which was good.

Thanks for all the posts Thanks

Hi how - I can empathise with how you feel, I was exactly the same. The first half of my pregnancy was absolutely fraught with worry. I had bleeding at 7 and 10 weeks and then when I was 14 weeks I lost loads of fresh red blood, it was horrific and terrifying. Thankfully baby was fine on all 3 occasions but I could never just relax and enjoy being pregnant. I'm also on medication that could have potentially caused serious disabilities in the baby and until it was rules out I refused to think about a happy future with a baby. I got the 'ok' in terms of the baby's health at my 20 week scan. I'm now 27 weeks and it is only over the last 2-3 weeks that I have allowed myself to believe that actually a happy, healthy baby may be on its way and that everything is going to be ok. Friends and family members have been buying things for the baby for months but I just kept telling them to take them back as I didn't want them - I didn't want to let myself believe that my baby might be ok. I even told my husband that I didn't want to do the Nursery until after the baby was born healthy and was home with us, I told him I couldn't bear to have a beautiful nursery but have no baby to put in it. I wasn't depressed or anything like that, I just wasn't prepared to let myself believe that everything was going to be ok. However, things are definitely on the up now as tomorrow we are going shopping for Nursery furniture and choosing our paints and wallpaper etc Smile The 20 week scan and the good news we had from it was a big turning point for me and I hope it will be for you too xx

Had a mega wobble last night, the anxiety always seems to catch up with me at night. I feel like the biggest fraud ever! Everyone wants to talk about the pregnancy but I just can't. I'm still convinced something will/has gone wrong. It's silly really but logic and common sense seems to gone out of the window. I really wanted this pregnancy but the constant worrying is just making me a miserable bitch.

And breathe! Just needed to get that out before I have to go put on my happy face to see friends.

I should also mention when 34 weeks with DD2 I went into hospital as I hadn't felt anything all day. They wired me up, she was going crackers but I didn't feel anything. She moved after about half an hour and I was being beaten up! I have always had placentas at the back as well so it really was just positioning.

Just more reassurance for you. I'm pregnant with my first and felt some 'odd sensations' at just gone 19 weeks but nothing definite. When I had my 20 week scan my Consultant told me that for first time mums they don't expect us to feel concrete movements until 22-23 weeks. I'm just over 26 weeks now and it is only over the last 3 weeks that I've been getting walloped and kicked Smile

Hi howaboutno, I'm also 18+3 with my first and haven't felt anything definite yet. I have a fetal heart monitor that I bought off the internet for about £20, it has been a great reassurance. I had a listen about an hour ago and the little bean is tucked way down low which is probably why I can't feel much. You might want to think about getting one; they are not for everyone though as you can't find the heartbeat every time which can make you panic. But with practice you get better.

I'm sure everything is fine, good luck with your MW/GP next week and let us know how it goes.

I didn't feel anything significant until about 21 weeks and sometimes baby would have a quiet day or hide behind placenta. However if you have any concerns go get them checked out. We went up to the day unit twice as we had reduced movement. Baby was fine but midwives were excellent and said if I ever had any concerns to just go up. Once baby gets bigger you'll get to know your baby and what is normal movement for baby. Congrats on your pregnancy and enjoy it.

I've been the same - this is my second and everyone says you feel things sooner, but not a sausage at 18 weeks so far. 16 week midwife appointment picked up a lovely heartbeat and a few very loud kicks (which I didn't feel!) so I'm trying not to worry!

212smj · 27/12/2013 17:25

I didn't feel anything until about 21 weeks and they were not definite in my mind until 22 weeks. So don't worry. I don't know why they always say 18 weeks. Xx

MissMedusa · 27/12/2013 16:51

I read somewhere that the stronger your abdominal muscles are the less likely you are to feel anything which is why you tend to feel things a lot sooner with subsequent pregnancies.

Hello. I could've written this post two weeks ago!! I've been so so paranoid that baby not moving as I've only felt the odd flutter usually followed by a big fart so I've written it off to wind. Had 20 week scan today and initially panicked as baby wasn't moving at all then radiographer showed us the heartbeat. All ok. Everything was ok. My placenta is right across my front hence it cushioning my little ones movements! Hurrah! I don't think they can tell exactly where placenta is at 12 weeks.. So don't worry. Wait for scan! Lots of love xxx

I felt nothing 'proper' until about 20 weeks. Now I'm 22 weeks baby keeps me up all night with kicking and prodding, I wouldn't worry too much Grin I also didn't find out where my placenta was until the 20 week scan.

Thank you - I'm definitely going to try and see either MW or GP next week to hear hb rather than wait and have a mini meltdown before my scan!

some of mine felt like butterfly wings flapping if that makes sense.

and bubbles too.

I know you are impatient, but honestly it's early days, no need to worry.

try and see GP or MW next week to check out heartbeat, that will make you feel better! Smile

Don't worry, you're quite normal. People kept asking me if I'd felt 'butterflies' when I was having DS. I didn't feel anything definite until well after my 20 week scan.

Report
ZingChoirsOfAngels · 27/12/2013 15:12

baby could be "facing backwards" - you won't feel a thing.

the big average to feel first movements is anytime between 18-22 weeks - earlier with consecutive pregnancies.
