Pregnancy

Having developed the palate of a fussy 5 year old, just what do you suggest I eat?

Everything tastes crap and nauseating. Poor DH is preparing meals that I pick at, nibble a bit then push it aside. Even tried not looking at it to see if I can just force it down, but it's just not working.

Homemade rice pudding goes down fairly well. Surely I can't live on puddings!

DH has suggested we go to the shop tomorrow together to get inspiration.

Am 13 weeks pregnant with 3rd child. Have not had this before for such a long time.

Please give me some food/recipe inspiration to get some nutrition into me.

The only proper meals I managed (others were mainly buttered toast and cereal)... were white pasta with butter and cheese - and sliced up breaded quorn chicken style burgers with polenta chips and grilled corn on the cobs. Both very carb-heavy and beige, but better than crisps which was the only alternative Grin

For pudding, frozen blueberries or a sliced up green apple - both bite size so not too challenging to eat - and really refreshing and zingy.

I found I could manage vegetarian ready meals, especially veggie lasagne. How about something like cauliflower cheese, that doesn't have much flavour?

Crumpets with margarine. Salt and vinegar squares crisps. Oohh and fajitas aswell. I don't even mind cooking those as they smell so good.

PG with DD2 I ate coleslaw every day. Some days it was all I ate.

with dd1 I mostly ate grilled cheese on toast or poached eggs on toast or cake.

I still love all these foods.

What fresh hell is the marmite pasta minihaha?! I'm a fan of marmite, but on pasta?

Is it the Complan stuff OP? I had nothing but that for about 2 weeks, and even then it was tricky keeping it down. Isn't pregnancy fun?!

Ah! I think I've gone the other way. I became really fussy then figured out I wanted really strong flavours, like sweet potato wedges (rather that normal potato), balsamic vinegar on everything (spinach, rocket and tomato salads with a cheeky bit of feta), olives, salt and vinegar crisps and jalepinos!!!these are currently my faves. I'd probably squeeze lemon onto everything if I could!

I did a big chunk pregnancy powered by carrots, mini cheddars and orange juice!!!! Although more helpfully I found hummus, (brown) pita and salad got me through a lot of lunches when nothing else would stay down.

Chip shop cod minus the batter
It Was all I could stomach - meant no cooking smells too which was a big bonus!
Macaroni cheese?

I'm so glad to read all this! Sorry I don't mean that in a horrid way, just glad im not alone! for the last few days my sickness has upped to another level. I'm about 12wks with my first (wahoo!) so everything is new to me, been feeling nauseous for weeks but been ok with most things until yesterday where I have been dry retching at everything ever since and gone completely off food! Been struggling to find anything to eat meal wise that hasn't made me want to retch - did manage some chicken and veg earlier but only cos I washed it down with coca cola which was oddly rather soothing. Cauliflower and baked potatoes sound good, crumpets too - any other suggestions?

Congee is the savoury version of rice pudding. Worth a look?

Melon, grapes, cucumber, cheesy mash?
Cauliflower meet the bland veg?
What about sweetcorn?
Poached egg?

Milk shakes made with real fruit and whole milk. Will get vitamins, minerals, good sugars and good fats in to you easily. If you want them to be a bit more filling add yoghurt and oats.

I really like oranges at the moment. And I'm drinking litres of fruit juice.

They are both mostly good for you, aren't they?

I was coming to post the same thing! Jacket potato and butter.

I've lost my apatite too OP. I know i need to eat because i feel woozy and weak after a while, but i just don't fancy anything in the kitchen.

I asked MW if it was ok to eat prawn cocktail from tesco and she said yes. hoorah! It's the only thing i've been fancying for days Grin

Baked potatoes with butter and a little bit of cheese.

Crisps.

I've also eaten loads of this posh popcorn that has been on offer in Waitrose. Big bags of salted or salted and sweet popcorn. Which is weird but tasty.

I'm now 16 weeks so eating a but better. Not much though. As the morning sickness eased a bit I got this horrible virus. So everything still tastes horrible but I don't know whether its because Im pregnant or because I'm ill.
