Just to give you an idea, I'm normally a 12, been wearing size 14 knickers post 15 weeks or so of pregnancy, but at 38/39 weeks the comfiest is a size 16! Shock so now I can understand why people on MN were suggesting two sizes up, and three weeks ago I thought that was ludicrous!

Leggings, vest top and cardi for going home in for me. My pregnancy attire pretty much!

I packed some jersey trousers, black vest top, super stretchy soft bra and a long cardigan for the trip home.

WeeS - I used dispos with DC1 and normal with DC2, will be taking a mix tbh, handy thing about dispos is that you don't need to bend to get them off, just rip em off at the sides :D

Laides, mind and pack an outift to wear when you are discharged too! I went in with dc1 in nighty and dressing gown, no bra... and had to come home in that too as nobody had packed one and nobody thought to bring me anything, was rather embarassing!!

Had a homebirth, mw sternly reminded me to pack the 'just in case' bag every time I saw her from 31 weeks on.

Eventually packed it at 39+5, the day before DS was born. It was v quick, easy and boring. (It is also completely worth doing for a homebirth too, not just because of possible transfer but so everything is in one easy place after.)

I'm 38 wks and have chucked some items in the general direction of a bag but I'm far from being ready. Think I might do it today actually.

Will be packing mine at 28 weeks after DS turning up very quickly and unexpectedly at 32 weeks last time!

I packed some massive black knickers from Tesco (£3 for 5!) and some disposable. I figured that the knickers were so cheap I could just chuck them if needed.

Even if I was planning a homebirth, I would still pack a bag. But I like being prepared for any event :D We live 40 minutes from the MLU, and 2 hours from the hospital, so I wanted every thing packed early!

Ahh! I wondered why I needed 'big knickers' - that makes sense now. I went to M&S last week to buy some but came home with a pack of Brazilian pants Grin Think I'll pack a selection to be on the safe side, including some disposables Smile

Im 35 weeks, no where near any 24 hour supermarkets (talking nearly an hours drive) no where near hospital (45 mins plus) and havent even started, though do have pads, and new birth pool liner and a new helios homeopathy kit

I MUST pack soon, even though im planning a second homebirth i still pack for hospital as its such a trek to get there and get anything to me there that i may have forgotten.

Last time i was all ready at this point.... this time, i figure i still have everything from last time. (would just need to find it!)

With dd1 I found disposable pants indispensable as I leaked with every pad. I got one pack and sent DH out for more the day after she was born.
With dd2, I decided I would use old pants as disposable and just replace them but it was actually more manageable and I only chucked a couple out. If I ever have dc3, I will use washable sanitary pads so will just wear old pants and they can be washed along with the pads if necessary.

WeeS as far as dispoable pants are concerned, I had them but couldn't bring myself to wear them.

I bought M&S value ones in a bigger size and wore those. If you need a section, big knickers miss the scar.

With DS I didn't get my bag ready until my water broke and I went in to be induced the next day.

With DD1 I had placenta praevia. Was admitted as an emergency at 33.5 weeks, arrived at hospital with my notes and a book, expecting to be checked over then sent home. DH had to prepare the bag from a scribbled list. Knickers weren't on the list list so I didn't get any! When released 2 days later I packed my bag and the baby bag, was re-admitted the following day.

With DD2 (placenta praevia again) I packed my bag as soon as diagnosed at 21 week scan. Needed it 3 weeks later.

I now believe it's never too early!

I've got a typed up list of what I've got in each bag, with a copy in each bag lol as well as copies of that on email and in Dropbox Wink

I am 33 weeks today & so far only have shampoo & conditioner in my hospital bag! Grin This is my first, so a bit clueless as to what I need so going by a list from Mothercare. Do I really need disposable pants???

Report
TheDetective · 17/05/2013 21:25

I was planning a homebirth so didn't do one.

Got to 19 days overdue, and did one then when I succumbed to being induced. Took 5 minutes to grab everything to be honest.

I wouldn't worry too much if you know where everything is. I live close to hospital, so it wasn't really an issue if I forgot anything, DP could go home and get it.

I'm 31 weeks and mines done, cos now I don't have to think about it until chucking my phone charger and notes in on the way out the door (however we do have 5 iPhone chargers between the 2 of us so I could just sling one in now)! X

I'd say have it done by 35 weeks - you'll end up unpacking and repacking it in the final days but it will give you something to do! Considering 37 weeks is not classed as premature, I'd say having a bag ready at 35 weeks would be sensible.

FoofFighter · 17/05/2013 21:08

Aiming to have mine packed by 32 weeks. Got some bits n bobs already though, Asda have 5packs of disposable pants for £1.50 which is quite a bargain :)

I'm 36w tomorrow and just about have it organised. I'm planning a homebirth though so I've probably been a bit lax with the content of the bag.

Report
Itsgoodtotalk · 17/05/2013 20:50

There is no harm in doing it now - it's a job done then isn't it. I left it quite late with both of mine and much of what I packed wasn't needed in hospital in the end!

Another one who has it on their 'to do' list. I'm 36 weeks on Monday so think maybe I'll get it done in the next week just so I'm prepared.
