Potty training

3yo not getting going to the toilet

Hi all,

my 3 yo 6 month boy has been ‘potty trained’ for 6 months. He will do poos on the toilet but never tells us when he needs a wee so as much as we take him, he still will do wee accidents. For example today we have taken him to the toilet 6 times and he has still done two wee accidents.

I have tried incentives like getting a prize from a prize box at the end of the day but he still doesn’t do it. At the start and before potty training he would tell us when he needed a wee so that’s why he started but now he doesn’t tell us at all.

Has anyone any advice? I’m doing about 2-3 washes a day at the moment as he will go through so many pairs of pants and I am slowly losing my mind with it.

My oldest was like this. I'm afraid I think it's just something you have to grin and bear. I am sure there is nothing wrong with him he's just 3 and has other things in his head. I won't tell you how long it took mine to be fully dry but I can assure you are not alone in this.

How about sticker charts? Start small with a sticker if he tells you he needs a wee then working up to stickers for no accidents all day? Otherwise it unfortunately sounds fairly normal though, he's still only 3, don't make a massive deal out of it and he'll get it eventually!

I know it's frustrating but they do eventually click have you tried timing it so taking him to the loo every half hour? Or hour?

Also is there any telling signs that he needs to go like fidgeting more grabbing at himself before he has the accident?

Is he using a potty or are you taking him to the toilet?

My DS is autistic so was later with potty training was 4 years old My DD was 3 had a few accidents whilst training but eventually clicked I remember just having the potty to hand and plonking them both down on it in hope they would go and when they did gave them lots of praise and stickers.

I also read a lot of books about potty training it does eventually happen OP even if at the moment it feels like it never will.

Meant read them books about potty training not me reading books 🙈.

Also as soon as they managed the potty a few times I got them onto the toilet asap with the child's seat on that it helps on the long run with school and being out and about they get use to the toilet as opposed to a little potty.

Took my to youngest until school age 5 yo to really "get it" with no accidents. 3yo still very young.
