Struggling with my son who's 3 years and 8 months, we've been trying to get him potty trained since he turnt 3, he can use the potty and the toilet and knows when he needs to go at home rarely having accidents, and is getting better at nursery, but when we're out he won't ask when he needs to go and will wee or poo himself only letting me sort him out ! My worry is that if he's not properly toilet trained by Sept they won't let him start school? Please any help will be appreciated x

The school can't refuse him so don't worry.

Have you asked him why he doesn't let you know when you are out? Is it that he doesn't like strange toilets? Is frightened of the hand driers or something else? Does he think there aren't any nearby toilets? Will he go in other people's houses?

If you can figure out why he doesn't let you know when he's out then it will be much easier to sort.

It can be stressful..honestly, if he's getting the hang of it at home and nursery, I would wonder if that's because he knows where he can use the toilet, whereas he doesn't when he's out?

Schools can't refuse to let a child start because they aren't toilet trained. However, given his age, I assume you mean September 2018? There's about 11 months between then and now. I think if he's getting the hang of it in secure environments, he'll be okay by then. I would put him in pants at home and nursery and pull ups when you're out. He'll soon tell you when he wants pants all the time! I know it's stressful but try not to put too much pressure on yourselves. He's getting the idea already!
