Poo help!

My daughter (nearly 3) has been potty training for 2 months. She got wee's straight away, very rarely has accidents & is dry at night. We decided she was ready to train as she was putting herself on the toilet & copying her big sister etc.
Poos are another story!
She has poo'ed her pants every day for 2 months. She isn't scared of the toilet or trying to hold it in. She seems to know exactly what she's doing. I have tried ignoring it, being cheery, being cross, offering chocolate rewards, trips to toy shop, paw patrol bribes! Nothing is working. She has done 2 poos on the toilet, got her reward and then gone off to another room and poo'ed straight on the floor. Someone recommended a YouTube video called Poo goes to Pooland(!) - she couldn't have cared less.
I'm at a loss of what to do & quite frankly I am completely sick of cleaning up/thinking about poo! Any advice would be GRATELY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I can't give advice but just wanted to say I'm in the same situation and I'm interested to see if anyone has any good advice. My DD is not far off 3 either. She has done really well with potty training and is completely dry in terms of wee and when we first started potty training she did her first few poos in the potty. There have been times when I've been busy with my DS and I've come back and she's poo'd in the potty all on her own. However in the last few weeks she has taken to doing every poo in her pants. I've tried bribing, being a little bit stern, telling her stories that the poo goes to feed the fishes etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I don't know whether to back off and ignore it?! So frustrating I feel your annoyance lynx let's hope someone comes along who can help!!

Hi, I am in a similar boat and it is so frustrating! There is an AIBU thread about similar (too new to Mumsnet to understand how to link sorry) about poo at the moment - might help to share the pain although there are no magic tips on it yet :)

Are they sitting on the toilet long enough to poo? My DC3 wouldn't sit on the toilet long enough to relax and go. So we made it a routine at the time of day he generally did a poo - after lunch. So we started making him go to the toilet and he had to sit there long enough to watch one episode of Fireman Sam on the laptop (4 years ago so no iPad to hand!). He also had a stool to rest his feet on so he wasn't clenching muscles whilst balancing. Didn't take long before he started going whilst watching the one episode. Then a few weeks later the laptop wasn't needed, he just went when he needed. It is a fustrating process.

Thanks Fresh that's really useful. I feel we've tried everything and our DD often doesn't poo at the same time each day but in the last 2 days she'said gone after lunch so maybe I can try your tactic tomorrow and see if that works.

I have a similar problem but my boy refuses to poo on the toilet. Will only do it in a nappy.....and he's 4! Just started school but thankfully no accidents as he times it well. It's almost like he's scared. We've tried refusing him a nappy but then he just holds it in for days and we give in because I don't want it making him ill. It's not creating a massive issue but we need to fix this. I can't work out why he won't do it in the toilet. He'll sit down with a nappy on then ask you toleave. Once you're gone he stands up and then does it. So is it not wanting to sit? We've tried various different reward systems but nothing is making him want to do it. Anyone had similar issues or any suggestions?

I'm in the same situation with my nearly 3 year old dd, it's driving me crazy!

My DS was the same...it got to the point that he was holding it in for days, then pooing was painful so it started the cycle again. An instance reward of sweets is the only thing that works. We have a small glass jar full of sweets in the kitchen and he is allowed 3 when he has a poo (we will gradually cut it down to 1 then none).

The other trick I have found that works to get him to try in the first place is to say "Mummy needs a poo". Often he replies "me too" so I sit on the loo whilst he sits on the potty. I must add I don't actually go myself, but somehow the fact we are going to the "loo" together encourages him to poo.

Oh and he has an Ella's pureed prune pouch every morning to keep things moving and soft. That has definitely helped.
