Hello Munchkin and welcome (back) to our club. Amy sounds like she's doing really well and I'm glad she's happy at nursery. I've seen a few other mums say how their little ones don't sleep so well at nursery and my first DD was the same - slept like a demon at home but only for 45 minutes at nursery.

My DS Harrison has a similar day - milk when he wakes then breakfast, naps at about 9-9.30 ish for anywhere between 45 minutes and two and a half hours Has some lunch then depending on how he slept in the morning he either has a big sleep after lunch or a short nap later in the afternoon at about 2.30pm. He still has milk in the afternoon (and all his milk feeds are still in a bottle) then tea at 5ish, bath, milk and bed for 6.30pm.

I might start phasing out his afternoon milk but I need to see what he's doing in the mornings first as just as I'm about to go back to work, he's decided he'll sleep until 7.30/8am so we can't fit milk and breakfast in before we leave the house. If this continues, I'm going to drop his morning bottle and replace it with milk in a cup with his breakfast and keep the afternoon milk for a bit longer.

Hope that helps and lovely to 'meet' you

Leo, feeling loads better today (thanks for asking) although have come down with stinking cold which may account for why I've been feeling so crappy all week. How is Niklas today?

hi everyone.
i don't know if you remember me, but i used to post (occasionally) on the march pregnant board. i had my little girl, Amy, on 10th march 2006. i was wondering if you'd mind if i joined this club? i've been popping in to see how you're all getting on and thought it was about time i introduced myself!

i went back to work part-time in august, just two days a week, and Amy goes to a nursery which she just loves. she is clapping, waving, crawling and can say dad-dad, mum-mum and duck (she has a duck in her bath at night!)
i have a bit of a question about milk and routines. at the moment amy's day looks like this (altough it's quite different at nursery at the moment because she doesn't want to nap, she used to!):

7am up
7.30am 5oz milk (by herself in her high chair from a next stage bottle with handles) and half a weetabix
9.30ish (very ish!) first nap for 30-60mins ish
11.30/12 lunch, protein followed by fruit
1.30 ish (3 hours after she woke up approx.) next nap for 30-90 mins
2.30ish 7oz bottle
5.00 dinner carbohydrate then fromage frais
6.30 bath
7.00 7oz bottle then bed.
(juice throughout the day, as i remember to offer her some!)

i've been considering dropping the 2.30 bottle - well, reduing the amount slowly over the next month, and putting her morning milk into a spouted cup, as the first step towards an open cup. what are you all doing? also, how many naps are your little one's on? when she goes up to the toddler room at nursery (when she's one) they just have one nap after lunch so i'll have to start to get her into that.

sorry to start off with such a long post! thanks

Busy - well done with the diet!

You feeling better?

Had a better night last night (then I did go to bed at 9). Niklas went to sleep at 7 woke up and 1, I gave him milk and spent an hour trying to settle him then went back to bed, he cried for quite sometime (but wasn't hysterical) before he went off to sleep. Woke at 5 had milk and back to sleep again until 6.45!

Harrison went to bed last night at 6.45pm and was asleep within about 5 minutes. He didn't get up until 8.10am this morning He woke just after 6 like he usually does, chatted to himself for about half an hour and then went back to sleep.

Also lost another 2lb this week on my diet (10 lbs in total), so after yesterday's blues, today I feel fantastic

Leo, hope Niklas picks up soon and you get some sleep and Popsy, hope Harry had a good night.

I've just read Popsycal's last post on her sleep thread! It looks as if things may finally start to improve with Harry's sleeping !
IF things go on like this I think Niklas will officially take the place of the worst sleeper of the March 2005 babies and he started out as one of the best! LAst night was a bit better, he woke at 3 and had some milk and then at 5 for the day! I think he was really hungry during the night, he has some catching up to do as he hardly ate anything for 4 days while he had a stomach bug.

Not enough sleep over the last few days has made me so tired today..... I am just going to vegetate and rot in my chair at work....

We did have a really great day yesterday! Spent a day with a friend and her dd, we took them swimming and then they played together the rest of the day.
I think Niklas is going to get a kitchen for his birtday. He was entertained for a long time playing with his friends kitchen! So cute, they gave each other a kiss goodbye when we went home!

Busywizzy - everyone has down days, but it could be a lack of some happy vitamins and minerals in your diet. Hope you are feeling better !

Oh yes, the photobucket is high on my list of things to do... I'll try this evening to put some new photos up !

Leo, Harrison's birthday is on a Saturday and I'm just having an open house for family and my baby group friends. I'm going to do some nibblies, lots of alcohol (for the grown ups) and a birthday cake as DD insists he must have one.

I'll probably put a few balloons up and a banner - You are One

Had Harrison's second visit to the childminder today and it went well again. He was a bit whingy as I think he has a tooth coming and has been off form for a few days, but he was very good with her. Quite happily sat on the floor and handed her things, played 'where's Harry's head' (his latest trick) and even happily went to her whilst I was getting coat and shoes on and loading all his bits into the car. She is lovely and I feel happier each time I meet her. We're going again on Wednesday and I'm going to leave him for an hour. Fingers crossed.

Feeling a bit fed-up myself this week. I'm not sure if it's lack of nice food (still on my diet) or linked to going back to work. Nothing in particular, just feeling a bit grumpy and miserable

Hope Niklas is feeling better.

Love the new photos of Lauren and Grace. Will try and sort mine tomorrow.

DD has to go to school in a few weeks dressed as a character from a book. Who could she be?

Lol jambot! Yes - I hadn't realised quite how bad it was - toy explosion sums it up perfectly!

Dh took the morning off work today so we took Grace to a local community farm to see the animals. Thought she might have been a bit scared of some them (big spitting llamas, large cows and noisy geese) but she took it all in her stride and was fascinated by everything. Have just put her to bed so am hoping she will have a good sleep before we have to go pick dd1 up from school (not asleep yet though - can hear her cooing to herself!)

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Thanks Bony. Grace is too sweet. Looks a little more petite than my thug! The background of one of your photo's looks like my lounge normally does. Once Lauren has been in there half an hour it looks like a toy explosion!
Lauren crawled straight off our bed last night and got stuck head first between the bed and the bedside table! She was trying to get away from me as she's decided she doesn't like to have her pj's on after her bath. Every night is a battle to get nappy and clothes on. The other night it was so hot and by the time I'd finally wrestled her into them I was sweating like a pig!

New photos uploading as I type, jambot!

Sorry you are having rough nights Leo - it's hard isn't it, when you've been used to reasonably good ones? Hope tonight is better for you.

Grace has only slept for 1/2hr all day (in the car on the way to my parents' for lunch). The last few days she doesn't seem to want her morning sleep so much. Part of me thinks it will be good if she drops to just one sleep a day as I won't be so tied to the house. The other part of me wonders when on earth I will get any housework done as I usually whizz round while she's sleeping!

Another bad night last night ! Got home after 1am. All the speed limits on the motorways are 80KPH - a pollution controlling thing due to months of low lying fog - it was really horrible to drive so slow when I was so tired. Niklas and dh were asleep in our bed when I got home. Niklas woke up about 2 and I put him in his bed, then he woke at 3, tried for a long time but he wouldn't sleep so I gave him milk, then at 5 wouldn't go back to sleep again... ho hum! I'm feeling great today !

We have friends coming later for fondue chinoise, Niklas is sleeping now so I had better go and start clearing up and preparing!

Hope you are all having a good day!

Grace - 20 March

Last couple of nights have been better despite Grace having a cold. Although she has woken a few times and cried out, she goes quiet again almost immediately and settles herself back to sleep. Fed at about 5am-ish both mornings and then back to sleep again.

Wondering if I ought to try to drop the 5am feed (or not drop - make it later) but am worried that if I do, she won't go back to sleep at that time and we will be starting our day very early. As it is, she usually sleeps until about 7.30 which is very civilised! Sort of hoping it will naturally become later as she gets older.

Hi all. We are fine here. Sylvia is walking lots by leaning against a push-along car or on the sofa. She has developed this mad, mad laugh. It sounds as if she's forcing herself to laugh but she doesn't. It's v funny. She also screams a lot, makes us jump out of our skin as we're convinced everytime that she's caught her fingers in a door or something similar.

Last night we went to see Bauhaus in concert at Brixton Academy and left S and D with Dominic's former nanny. She managed far, far better than we do. Both D and S were asleep when we got back, Sylvia in her cot.

Hi all,
Well Niklas is sick again! this time another stomach thing and today dh has got it. It seems to be one thing after another! We were supposed to be going to a wedding party this evening and for the first time going out for an evening on our own, leaving Niklas with a friend. I'm not happy about it but I think I am going alone. Uuuurgh, everyone I know going (which is about 2 people) are going in couples, its a long drive and I'm not sure I have the energy to cope with a Swiss German evening.... but its a good friends wedding, she will be disappointed if I'm not there!

Pidge and Busy - glad to hear childminding things are going OK.

Popsycal - I'm really sorry that you are still having such a bad time . It really is time that things got better for you.

On the sleep thing Niklas has started doing what Grace is doing. He goes to sleep no problem, but wakes up at 1 or 2 and will not go back to sleep! He settles down, I get back into bed and just as I close my eyes he starts crying again! This went on for 3 hours one night. I've tried bringing him into bed with us, giving him milk but it doesn't help. Luckily if I am too tired I tell dh that I'm not gettig out of bed. Even if I wake up and he doesn't he gets kicked out ! Otherwise despite throwing up all over me many times over the last few days and the most unbelievable stinky nappies he is adorable !

Anyone got good ideas for the birthday parties????

I think Caleb and Serena are a couple of days older than Niklas, he is 23rd Feb.

Glad it went well with Harrison Busy. One thing less to stress about.
Wonder what's waking Grace up Bony? She's not cold is she? Find the only thing that normally wakes Lauren is the temperature.
Lauren has gone to my parents for the weekend. We are trying to finish last minute jobs on the house before my cousin arrives next week and am finding it impossible to achieve anything with a nosey and demanding crawler about.
Took her for her monthly check up yesterday. Although she grew a cm last month (79cm), she didn't put on any weight, which is a first. Think it's due to her two week spell of runny tummy. Am going to start phasing out her bottle from next week, with the aim to have her drinking everything, including her milk, from a cup by a year. She's an old hand with her cup for other liquids so don't think it'll be a problem. It'll probably only be slightly tricky with her bedtime bottle as she does love that. But it's not as if the milk is disappearing, just what it comes in.
It's been stinking hot in Cape Town. Feb is always our hottest month and on exactly the first of the month is shot up about 10 degrees! Overcast today though, so bit of a respite. Remember being 8 months pregnant in this heat last year - not fun. Am going to time trying for the second so that my last months at least fall into autumn.
Leo, won't Niklas be the first one celebrating a birthday? Think we should just remind each other of the exact birth dates so that we don't forget anyone's birthday.
Lauren - 9 March ( Same as Iris)

Pidge - so glad that Iris is happier at the childminder's. You must be so relieved. Glad that you are enjoying work as well.

Busy - sounds as though Harrison will settle well at his childminder's - hope the rest of the visits go as swimmingly as the first one. You must feel a lot happier about dd as well now that you have spoken to the teacher. It's good that they're taking this seriously.

Hope Harry is feeling better popsy - horrible time for you .

We have had some bad nights with Grace this week (although probably not bad at all compared with Harry).

Although she goes to sleep without problems almost every night, she has been waking once a night and not settling again - Tuesday I was with her for 1.5 hrs, Wednesday, dh with her for an hour, and last night it was 1/2hr. So getting better but not sure why this has started. She will lie down with a bit of shushing and patting but as soon as we make a move to leave the room she sits bolt upright and starts crying. Hope it doesn't continue.

Other than that, she is absolutely gorgeous - chats away all day long and is so happy most of the time. Loves to climb the stairs and just adores other babies - bought her "my first baby Annabel" today which she just keeps hugging and "talking" to!

Still not clapping, pointing or signing at all but does wave goodbye (although has to be in the right mood!).

Harrison had his first phase-in visit at the childminders yesterday afternoon and it went really well. We stayed for an hour and he sat happily playing with all the new toys and with the childminder's little girl, who has just turned three. He didn't seem bothered at all, although I was obviously there with him the whole time but he didn't keep looking round for me.

We have another visit together on Monday morning, another visit on Wednesday afternoon, when I'm going to stay for an hour and then leave for about half an hour to collect DD from school. That then gives us all the following week to do as many visits as we feel are necessary.

Feeling much happier now

Pidge really glad Iris seems to be settling. You knew she would but it must be a weight off your mind now that it's actually happening. Glad work is going well also, although don't envy you that journey. Where are you travelling to?
