I'm so miserable

A few days ago posts were full of people talking about the cost of living crisis and realisation that consecutive Tory governments have left the worse off even worse off and how we needed and change and maybe people could get over Starmer's blundering words on women, but all it took was Boris to say what everyone wants to hear on women's rights and all of a sudden everyone's back to boring Tory again.... nothing has changed!! Boris is not a feminist!! His researchers have just read Mumsnet .....

Mumsnet isn't representative of the entire country. The elections next month are local elections.

If you're miserable why not tell people why they should vote Labour rather than Boris-bashing?

The Labour canvasser who came to my door before the last GE did exactly what you're doing. It cemented my not voting Labour.
He couldn't tell me what Labour could do for me, just what the Tories couldn't.

We cannot get over Starmer's hatred of women. It's a one issue tipping point for so many of us, and despite many efforts labour simply aren't listening.

I'm not a labour voter and not trying to persuade people one way or the other - it's purely an observation of how fickle people are

The focal few on MN do not represent the population. Many, many of us are gender critical but are not single issue about feminism. Those that will vote for this issue alone and "will die on a hill" for it are not the majority of the country. Quite a few were Tory voters already as this is non party issue. However, as known, some use the GC theory as it fits in with their ore existing bigotry. Most GC aren't bigots/Johnston fans but some are and this is brilliant for them.
I don't love Labour but would never vote for BJ. Any fool can see that he hasn't said this because he cares about women, he is known to be a groper and is vile towards women. He has said it because it will make him more popular with firstly his core voters and secondly those on the fringes. His has basically announced that the king is wearing no clothes and people are acting like he his some sort of Suffragette. He hates women, he hates the poor, he cares nothing for us but he loves power and being liked.

Freckles - way more articulate than me on the subject. Hopefully that's the case but I don't know...

Hark back to the Hartlepool by-election which, if you go by the Mumsnet thread at the time, was won primarily on ideological issues

I agree, @FrecklesMalone

So true.

I’ve just read that the popularity of Boris and Rishi is declining rapidly due to the cost of living crisis.

When that bites they’re finished.

Everyone knows that Boris Johnson lies, so I am always shocked when people trust he's being truthful when talking about issues important to them.Confused

BJ only made those comments for political gain, not to soothe worried women. Purely about showing up Starmer. But I’m still very glad he said them. Won’t vote for him or his party but neither can I vote for any of the others at the moment. I think a lot will come down to what our local candidates are like by the next general election, unless Labour have shifted significantly.

So true. They want to fall for it though as it suits their rhetoric. Also it's hard to admit that you fell for it in the first place

I agree with Freckles that a lot of those posters would be voting Tory anyway. Including the ones who say "I'm leftwing at heart - I'm just waiting for the Labour party to get its act together and come up with proper left wing policies to help the poorest exactly like they had in 2017 and 2019, and find a proper leader who isn't a hopeless communist like Corbyn or Milliband, and isn't a red Tory sellout like Blair, Brown or Starmer. And to work out how they solve all the country's problems without changing anything whatsoever."

I think the truth is a lot of people just want an excuse for voting Tory (because they know, really, it's a pretty shitty thing to do). If it weren't this ludicrous idea that the Tories are on the side of women because they mutter some non-commital stuff about biology, it would be something else.
