Trump's World War - Impeachment likely due to CIA or Business links?

Who would elect such a reckless individual? My teenager is finding it hard to sleep as they think a nuclear war will soon end all time?
They are really worried about the future since the Americans have upset most of the world by electing Trump?

They are spending huge amounts of time blogging and trolling the news headlines? How do I deal with this as it is leading to school absences and poor sleep?

OP, I don't know how I'd deal with it because I feel the same as your teenager!!

Did anyone hear the programme on R4 today drawing a parallel between last year's election and 1968? They pointed out similarities such as the fact that in 1968 there was a right-wing backlash from the electorate; a Democrat candidate that no-one was very enthusiastic about - Hubert Humphrey; and a Republican candidate with dubious ethics. All of that resulted in the election of ... Richard Nixon.

And that turned out well, didn't it?

If the contents of the dossier are verified, then I do not see how Trump can be President. If he were, then the Leader of the free world would be a direct security threat - not least to NATO troops in the Baltic. It would be a completely insane scenario.

And if Putin has something he can use to blackmail Trump, then that spells big problems.

2016 was the year. the Western World had a collect time mental breakdown.

OP, I feel that the mass media have been drip feeding fear, with fear comes control. If you think about it, the Trumps and Putins of this world are businessmen first and are unlikely to wipe out the very people who work in order for the elite to exploit and make a profit from. Ditto that they would obliterate the world's resources, the oil and minerals, the infrastructures.

As another poster mentioned earlier, I do feel that it would be easier to remove the madman than the entire population of the Earth.

Please ask your son to try and concentrate his energy into seeing the good, the positive, becoming involved in environmental projects where he would learn about resources/ corporate profits and their disregard for the environment.
I have lived through wars, through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Reagan years, etc. There may well be wars but I doubt very much that it would come to Mutually Assured Destruction.

I hope your son can also learn how to unwind and help his anxiety, I really do empathise as our generation has suffered the same fears for years and it vexes me so to the point that you go beyond fear and find peace.

Leaving aside the notion of bellicose elderly men, would any of you put a child in charge of over 1700 actively deployed nuclear weapons?

And it's always elderly men who do all the warmongering.

As an adult who was a teen in the 80's l am also shitting myself. At least in the 80's we knew our enemy, and the Cold War whilst being a threat had some sort of stability. Trump is a loose cannon. Unpredictable and dangerous. Putin is the same.

I remember Reagan being elected, that was a scary time, but he wasn't as insane as Trump. In 2016 the whole world order has changed, isolationism, facism, nationalism and racism. I don't watch or read the news anymore, it shits me up. And I'm 53!

The war mongerering and sabre rattling across the world has gone up to a whole new level. There a very few people alive now who were alive in WW2, so very few people will remember the horror of it. With this horror disappearing, there is literally nothing to put the brakes on any escalating threat. The whole world seems angry, like a tinderbox waiting to go up.

I think this is a much scarier and unpredictable time than the Cold War. Dh and l both think a bomb will go off somewhere in the world. And the results would be so horrific that it will reset the world to a less angry and hostile atmosphere

I think you need to explain to your teenager that not everything he reads is true and that he should not be worrying himself silly about this. I think you should be reassuring him a little. You don't say what your political beliefs are but if you are openly anti Trump you might not be helping him. He sounds as if he is getting a little obsessed, while a good keen interest in politics is good - it is not good if he is loosing sleep over it.

Dawn - I saw Chris' thread late last night which was pulled due to it being a TAAT but there was nothing in there that would even come close to warranting a ban (and only had about 6 posts anyway). I asked MNHQ this morning and they just said they had deleted it for the above reason. It's all getting a bit ridiculous now in my opinion.

Missswatch - I too would like to find Claig elsewhere but wouldn't know where to start.

I could look for Claig on TD subreddit. Expect that'd be like finding a needle in a haystack, with that haystack in a field of haystacks in one of many fields with many haystacks belonging to one of many farms while someone gets me tanked on Polish vodka, blindfolds me, spins me round and leaves me too it

For now, impeachment can come at any time in a Presidency you know.

However the CIA, FBI and NSA are saying that Putin interfered with the election, and after Trump's request for them to: "Hack the files" there are some serious questions to answer.

Why don't you give him some real history to read. We got through WW2, which was just an unbelievable horror.

The orange dump is going to be v unpleasant sure. But I don't see another world war. Corruption, savage social cuts, a wealthier elite, a liquid arctic yes. WW3... probably not.

Besides, with all the tax cuts he's planning he'll have no money for nukes. Grin though not sure how good he is at sums

Your teenager could have a secret crystal ball. Shock

On a new development:
Trump on nuclear weapons tweet: 'Let it be an arms race'

www.aol.com/article/news/2016/12/23/trump-on-nuclear-weapons-tweet-let-it-be-an-arms-race/21641047/

On Twitter: "The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes."

But don't tell him about any of this, OP.

tbf, us teens in the '80s we were seriously worried about nuclear war. But not as worried as folk were in the '60s about nuclear war. Who had less reason to be worried than the people caught in the Blitz in 1939 or the guys in the Trenches in 1915.

Teenagers just worry OP. Somehow humans keep going in spite of all our many stupidities.
