Anyone who has had a life will have done something at sometime that they are ashamed of. The three charges aimed at Boris were;

Made something up as a journalist - so what, don't they all.
Lied to Howard about affair - Boris denies this but if true so what - none of Howard's business
Agreed to supply address of journalist to Darius Guppy so said journalist could be beaten up - agreed but didn't supply address so no harm was done.

These three things are hardly a big scandal and none of them are against the law. IMO this does not make him a 'nasty piece of work'. If this is the extent of the skeletons in Boris's closet then I would say he has nothing to worry about.
Having watched the recent documentary about him I think he is very cunning - cultivating the image of a buffoon whilst at the same time being very driven.

Boris is of course fair game and responded quite well I thought by appearing to defend Mair, on the grounds that it is "the constitutional duty of the BBC to attack nasty tories".

But calling someone a nasty piece of work is not necessarily the same as exposing them as one. A lot of this stuff is well known and quite a few years old now.

And also I wonder whether Mair or his BBC colleagues would/have ever verbally abuse Labour or Liberal types in this way. I doubt it.

The guy is a skilled manipulator of the press. I would say he is more popular than ever now after this docu. He even congratulated Mair on his interview style - genius turnaround got to hand it to him really.

lol - well, I'm assuming MN'ers have enough sense to know the difference between wanting to bed someone and wanting them to be mayor. ;)

Not sure that's how he came across!

Did to see this morning's thread on Boris, baby oil and marshmallows?
