Christ it's a big shake up.

I say this as someone who won't be personally affected- it is harsh.

Basically if you claim any benefits other than child benefit you're probably going to have a loss.

For me it makes sense that in current times that we are not paying housing benefit to people whom have a place bigger than they 'need'.

It's not so straight forward. The only accessable accomodation near me has two bedrooms or more. So a single person wit mobility needs or who uses a wheelchair has no option but to rent a two bedroom place.

The reason for them being a minimum of two bedrooms is that you might need a carer, maybe not all the time, but some of the time.

Also there is no option to buy the accessable homes.

Amberleaf - "She is entitled to her opinion and I am entitled to disagree with it-its called debate."

But you are not debating with her, you are telling her she should be ashamed if she doesn't think the same way as you do (i.e. feel sympathy for the relatives of Mark Duggan). Surely debate isn't imposing your opinions on others and if they don't agree saying "shame on you". Sorry but that's not debate!

Do not worry MrsD you are not unkind and agree with you over racism, homophobia and kicking people when they are down. I still love you Smile

Thank you.
I can be a bit mean if someone is being particularly racist, homophobic, poor bashing etc. I am not a saint!

But no, I cannot imagine being horrible about the death of anyone. If I was I am pretty sure it would stick in my memory because I would be fretting about it.

I can only imagine that the poster is confused or being deliberately spiteful.

I will go for confused right now.

MrsD I can't imagine you being unkind to anyone tbh and certainly not in that context and no you absolutely weren't.

"How many people complaining here would have sympathy for the relatives of George Osbourne or Margaret Thatcher when she dies? "

I have sympathy for their relatives now, purely for being related to them in the first place. Ditto Scameron.
It's one thing to have no sympathy for a person you consider to be vile/criminal/"deserving" of their fate; it's another thing entirely to lack sympathy for people who are, through pretty much no fault of their own, related to them, should they be killed/die.

Your memory is better than mine Amber!
So was I unkind and unsympathetic about the deaths of her relatives?

I can be pretty strident about a lot of things but TBH that doesnt sound like me at all.

Was that when you used the example of your mil and fathers care during illness to make some sort of political point tilly?

Something about them not getting services/benefits they shouldve as a reason why the DLA cuts are a good thing?

Is that what you're talking about?

I am not asking for you to debate.
I am asking that you back up your nasty little accusations with something other than passive agressive hinting.

You appear to be implying that I made light of the death of your DP's mother and your father.

I dont need a debate. I know it isnt true.
And so do you.

How very unpleasant of you to make such a claim and then run away.

no i am not interested in debating anything with someone who doesnt recall when its convenient for them.

i really have better things to do.

you dont recall. like James Murdoch et al.

& no i dont have you or the other poster confused with anyone else.

however you clearly are not worth debating diddly with. carry on banging your drum.

Was that last post addressed to Flatpack YoYO?

The one who shouted bigot?

Are you accusing me of being unsympathetic when your DP's mother died or when your father died?
If you are I think you have me confused with someone else entirely.

I am very sorry for your losses but I have no recollection of the thread you are talking about.

Are you sure all the unsympathetic people were left wing? Did that have a baring on what happened?
I am very confused.

When people express sympathy for the loss of DD I never think about what their political leanings are. Its never come up.

Are you sure it was because of their political beliefs?

Report
YoYoYoItsTillyMinto · 16/07/2012 15:38

on the upside, we are obviously all interested in discussing this topic, so maybe more discussion and less shouting bigot would be a constructive way forwards?

i dont remember being overwhelmed with sympathy when discussing DPs mothers death or my paralysed fathers death either. on a thread some time ago.

posters - who are on this thread - rather than engage in debate in what i was actually talking about, imagined scenarios that bore no resemblance to anything that happened in real life.

and called me vile for...doing what they were imagining...not what actually happend. but of course they have limitless sympathy.....if you have politics they approve of.

debate is much more interesting than ranting & i actually enjoy what other posters say even if its not my personal view. people looking for boogie men is also interesting. someone has to be Evil & Heartless, not just of a different opinion.

Why shouldnt she?
What is it based on?

I hate Cameron. He is a cunt. But I had utmost sympathy for him when his son died.

As did just about everyone else.

And I think you will find that I was not the one to start throwing the word bigot around.

me

I have sympathy for the family of anyone who dies tbh because grief hurts and I have empathy for their pain.

She is entitled to her opinion and I am entitled to disagree with it-its called debate.

Report
Orwellian · 16/07/2012 13:53

Why does she have to have sympathy for his relatives? Surely her opinions are up to her and not everyone else and she does not have to justify her opinions? How many people complaining here would have sympathy for the relatives of George Osbourne or Margaret Thatcher when she dies? Let her have her opinion without the thought police giving her a lecture on what she should or should not be thinking and please do not throw the word "bigot" at someone just because she has a different opinion. It belittles the meaning of the word and makes people who use it inappropriately look like drama queens trying to stifle debate.

The only bigotry I have seen on this thread is from the poster who started a discussion about rioters and looters on a thread about benefits.

guardian headline www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/aug/17/riot-hit-london-boroughs-unemployment

"Riot-hit London boroughs among worst unemployment blackspots: TUC list of places in Britain where jobs are hardest to come by includes Hackney, Haringey and Lewisham"

Since when did we have the death penalty in this country?

The police had no right to execute him like this, regardless of whether he had a criminal record or not.

whether he had a criminal record or not is not excuse to shoot someone.
