does anyone have any tips on how to listen to your inner voice or your heart? how do you tune in to knowing what your heart wants and seperate it from what your head may be telling you? would be interesting to hear your comments.

Steve Jobs' inner voice lives on in this Apple laptop I'm posting from ..... probably the most beautiful machine I've ever owned. I 'knew' it was right the moment the salesman put it into my hands

Hmmm. Well Steve Jobs listened to his "intuition" & "inner voice" and chose to fight his cancer with alternative treatments like acupuncture & a special diet - something he came to regret, and which probably cost him his life.

Came across this quote which made me smile. " your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma- which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary" . ~ steve jobs, ex CEO of Apple.

Love to everyone. Smile xx

I think a craving for chocolate and ice cream has much to do with our ancestors restricted sugar consumption and absolutely nothing to do with intuition.

Of course we 'feel' with our bodies. It is why we say ' my heart wasn't in it' or 'it was a gut feeling' or even ' i feel it in my water'. Think of the reaction if you lose someone you love - you feel it, viscerally. The emotions affect how the body feels. These feelings expresses themselves as a biological process, but start with the emotions.

cote, it isn't easy to differentiate between the voices. Precisly the discussion in this thread. But it really isn't rocket science to know that too much choc and ice-cream is bad for your health. Intuition is to be consulted when it comes to more meaningful things or decisions one may be struggling with. I am sure at some point in your life you must have had a hunch or a gut feeling about something which ended up being true....no?

I have many experiences of where my intuition was 'wrong' too. Looking back I can see how I received some kind of 'red flags' but still chose to ignore.
This is why I have dedicated part of my life to learning what is right for me. I use my intuition to do this- as following what anyone else says just doesn't do it for me. If something resonates with me, and it feels 'right'; I will often go with it. If it doesn't feel right, then I don't.

Selba, I don't come here for any kind of debate. However, some posters thrive on it. I don't.
I give my honesty and experiences, often to be patted down by those looking for some kind of 'proof', or debate. I offer neither.

yes, but the discussion is about how to listen to your inner voice/ intuition. And feeling how your body reacts to something is one of the ways in which you can tap in to your intuition which is what indigo was saying. So if your body tells you, eat more choc and ice- cream because it feels...you know deep down , when that subtle intuitive voice tells you, no too much of this choc and icecream is NOT going to make your body feel good in the long run...is the voice you should be listening to, because that voice knows what is ultimately good for you and your body .

This thread is hilarious. I could give you some real life examples of my and others' intuition that were well out, but there is no potential for debate if the answer is just that I have not properly developed my intuition!

And Cote, my body is very much for large helpings of chocolate and ice cream too. And wine. Fortunately i have a pretty good brain that influences my actions and choices

Cote, you raise such good questions. Do you mean temptation as some kind of negative force?

The question you asked me (and please do correct me if I am wrong) was

Are you saying I should not listen to my brain when it says "Don't eat more than a little bit of choc & ice cream or you will get fat" and just do what feels good?"

My answer was that I said nothing about brains. That was my answer, Cote.

Anyway, how am I supposed to differentiate between temptation and intuition when I get the urge to do something?

Do they talk to different ears?

Report
CoteDAzur · 15/02/2013 21:39

gtedder - No, actually, what Indigo said was "Well, one of the easiest ways to do it is to note your body reactions to things. I think you should always opt for what feels good, to you."

I don't see any mention of intuition. I see mention of body reactions and opt for what feels good, to you.

cote, I'll have a go at answering if you dnt mind.. i think the voice speaking to you wen it says to eat choc and icecream is not your intuition spking to you...and indigo was saying that if wen your intuition spks to you and it feels good, then follow your intuition as it won't be wrong. When you hear a voice asking you to eat more choc and icecream...its the voice of temptation whose only purpose is to stray you further from what is actually good for you. Moderation would be a good thing in the case of eating choc and ice- cream. Wink

I haven't even said anything.

I asked a question.

Can you try to answer it?

Report
IndigoBarbie · 15/02/2013 20:58

Cote, why does what you say need to be right? Smile
If you don't agree with what I've said, that's fine. You might never have experienced feeling things with your body, or your heart. The best way to reconnect is to do some right brain stuff. If you want to try it.

That overwhelmed you, did it? Smile I thought it was an easy question.

Sleep on it and I'm sure you will be able to give me an answer tomorrow morning.

(Hint: Using your brain rather than your heart will help Smile)

I'm definitely with Indigo. Intuition is never wrong, only your interpretation of what its telling you could be incorrect. Your intuition is your true essence and I also believe you have to work on getting to know it. Also intuition is not to be confused with feelings of over- paranoia and other related emotions. Smile

I love it that you provide me with so much to think about. I didn't say anything about brains.
You listen to whatever part of you speaks and you feel like listening, if it says chocolate and ice cream - you go for it.

Report
CoteDAzur · 15/02/2013 20:39

I know that, but you said "I think you should always opt for what feels good, to you. You only came here with a body, and it has all the tools you require for your life's journey - whether you believe it or not. Therefore, it also has magical powers on discernment. "

So... chocolate & ice cream feel really good. These unconscious magical powers of discernment, manifesting themselves through that good feeling seem to be telling me to eat as much of both as I can find.

Are you saying I should not listen to my brain when it says "Don't eat more than a little bit of choc & ice cream or you will get fat" and just do what feels good?

Indigo - When you said I should always do what feels good to me, did you mean I should eat as much chocolate and ice cream as I want?

Wow Selba, say what you really mean.
Generally we have to build a relationship with our intuition to know whats right and wrong for us, personally.
Intuition, is never wrong. It's the interpretation and expectations that people place on it. And I speak from my own experiences, my own truth, always.
If you 'utterly refute the notion' you might have to explore for yourself (if it's your own you are struggling with) why this might be. We cannot judge another's intuition. We can only go with our own.
