Pedants' corner

I can't take anymore

I've had to block my ex husbands emails. It's not the long, rambling messages berating me over my latest misdeed. Telling me how abusive I am ( I have been basically no contact for a long time).

It's his spelling and grammar that I just can't take amymore. Now I'm no Rhodes scholar, but the constant 'myself' and 'yourself' drives me mad. Then there's the spelling errors eg 'tuff' as in 'we need to have some tuff conversations'.

Then there's the random words like 'eligibly' instead of allegedly. Or in his last email 'reportably I have reported you to the police' - what?

It's like he thinks he's a lawyer (not even close 🙄) and I just want to scream at him to speak like a normal person!!!! Alas I can't because that would start a whole lot of back and forth so instead I have blocked him.

I can see why you LTB. It’s taken me about 15 years to beat “myself” and “within” out of DH. Luckily for him he has many redeeming features.

Print them out and correct all the nonsense grammar and vocab errors in thick red pen then give him a grade and a comment eg. ‘Must try harder’ or ´Please proofread your work before handing it in´´ always do your emails before opening the whiskey’ maybe even ´fake news’.

Haha @olderbutwiser I'm trying to imagine all the ways your DH has inserted 'within' into conversations.

I know @spearthatbroc 🙈 the odd spelling error I can deal with it's the constant use of 'big words' that make no sense.

Oh I love that idea @DontPutTheKidsThroughIt he certainly gives me enough (unwanted) feedback!

People misusing (or making up) big words in an attempt to make themselves intelligent is a massive pet hate of mine. I used to have a boss who'd say 'that's confirmative' instead of 'yes'. Awful.

Don’t send your corrections to him. It’s not wirth the aggro. Just stick them on your fridge or something for a few days.
