...I run baby signing classes and am planning for next year. I currently run a very popular Saturday morning class and am thinking about doing an afternoon class as well.

Would be interested to know if people, in theory, would attend a class on a Saturday afternoon.

Simple yes or no would be a big help - thank you!

yes

cory · 09/10/2008 21:12

No. Saturday afternoon family time.

Hulababy · 09/10/2008 21:13

No, sorry. Weekends wouldn;t interest me at all.

Probably depends where you are. Dh has always, until recently, worked shifts so i was often at a loose end at weekends. Lots of people work weekends these days.

Why not advertise it, and see what response you get. You could always add a 'may not go ahead if there are not enough takers'

Did Baby Signing with DS and really enjoyed it.

But I think Sat afternoon would be a no.

Smithagain · 09/10/2008 21:22

No - family time.

mumma2cjh · 09/10/2008 21:27

no - preference would be mid week mornings - def wouldnt consider pm

NorbertDentressangle · 09/10/2008 21:28

No

(neither morning nor afternoon actually)

Rindercella · 09/10/2008 22:15

No - all day Saturday would be out for us

coochybottom · 09/10/2008 22:26

Look like a "no" then!

fallingstandards · 09/10/2008 22:32

I would, and good for you. I have a profoundly deaf son and we signed to him from a few weeks old. My next baby two years on picked up the signs very early and started to use them long before she was old enough to speak the words, which showed that babies are not necessarily "pre-lingual" just because they are "pre-speaking"! ("Where's the chocolate yoghurt?" at the age of six months was a favourite I seem to recall!) I had to go to classes in the evenings after coming home bloopered from work and would much have preferred to go on a Saturday. Good luck!

lilymolly · 09/10/2008 22:37

yes

lilymolly · 09/10/2008 22:38

i work 5 days a week as do a lot of mums

HaveYouCheckedTheChildren · 09/10/2008 22:40

no - I don't work outside the home but enjoy weekends being all together.

coochybottom · 09/10/2008 22:46

Does baby signing delay actual speech at all? Just wondered as thought they might end up getting lazy & use signs instead of words. Not being sceptical just wondered.

Thanks for all the replies.

Coochybottom - signing actually encourages speech (as proven by research), certainly doesn't delay it. By giving a baby both a visual and verbal cue for a word you help their understanding of it. I signed with my youngest daughter and by the age of 18mths she could say more than 200 words!

I actually already run a Saturday morning class which was the first (out of 6) to fill this term, so I'm confident that Saturdays per se are not unpopular for classes. My gut feeling though was that afternoons would not be as popular as mornings (which most of the replies here seem to bear out!)

I work so would be interested in saturday classes - if your saturday morning class is oversubscribed wouldn't families be interested in afternoon classes?

PumpkinPatty · 10/10/2008 12:52

No
