Am going on holiday with 2YO should I brave it without a pushchair?

Am going to visit family/friends in Glasgow for 5 days with my 2.1YO DS. Still use pushchair alot up here but is a big 3 wheeler and have to travel by train. We'll be travelling alot by bus but spending long days out too sometimes shopping.

Would you brave it and see how it goes or should I take pushchair just incase?

On no account get one then mamadiva-unless you have someone to do the carrying for you.

No.

We did this with a 21m DS#1. We went to Madeira and I have never had such a terrifying time in my life - cliffs, swimming pools and fast roads everwhere!

Get a cheap small one - perhaps second hand? It's got to be worth it.

I would get a back carrier - I used to use it for walking up until DCs got too heavy-certainly used to go fell walking when aged 2yrs- and just as handy in town.

you just wait, if anyone has one they will email you and you go and pick it up (or arrange someone to pick it up). thats it. then in future instead of binning old toys or stuff you dont want you post an offer, people email you and they collect from you. its a fab idea

I have signed up for freecycle but am finding it VERY confusing. Have signed u8p for Moray group and posted for a oushchair. What do I do now?

list of freecycle groups

all you need is an email address, i dont know if it has to be yahoo or not but if it does its no bother to set one up. i think some insist on you giving something before you ask for something but im sure you can find something - one mans trash is another mans treasure, we got rid of old blank videos, toys, books, allsorts really

I would say it depends on what your plans during the day are. Maybe you could try it out at home first?

I would also agree to try freecycle or netmums for a free buggy, or even to borrow one from there. If you were near me, I would lend you a lightweight one.

I got a lovely mamas and papa travel system from freecycle when I was pregnant - so its not all tat or anything!

Oh, ok. Well you couldn't be much further away from me. Also have a foldy up one you could have had. :-) could the friends you are staying with source you a lightweight one for you, so you don't have to travel with it?

Might be an idea to see if possibly could borrow hated pram back as she has 2 DDS and doesnt use it unless is to put 18MO to sleep at night. But don't get me starte on that LOL. But if I get that and buy a wrost link I can push and hold DS at same time.

We spent a fortnight in France without a buggy with 2.4 yr old dd, but we don't use one much/at all at home either. If you still use it a lot normally then it would seem a bit risky to go away without one.

nailpolish sorry to hijack, but why have lothian buses stopped allowing buggies on?

Report
mamadiva · 30/07/2008 09:15

LOL well I gave my Jane stroller to her because I HATE it with a passion because it was shoddy quality and DS looked as though he was going to fall out and impossible to push when holding his hand.

You could try it, but I wouldnt try it on holiday!
If he is not ready to walk all the time and gets tired and grumpy, you'll have 5 days of misery!
Borrow one or beg on freecycle! Ask the friend you are visiting if she has friends you could borrow from near her.

Yes sometimes he sleeps during the day. Just thought maybe because he's 2 he's old enough to try and walk it. Am I being mad to imagine he can do this?
