Upright travel stroller recommendations

Hello

I’m going abroad (solo 😳) with my will be 20 month old. He’s a BIG boy and I need a very compact stroller that I can put in the overhead compartment. The EasyJet dimensions are 56 x 45 x 25cm and a number of strollers fit into this or are like 1/2cm over max.

I’d convinced myself to buy a new Ergobaby Metro Plus because it’s got great reviews and has a good resale value too. However, looking at this and similar strollers they look far too reclined even in their most upright position.

I hardly ever use a buggy for my little one as he has been walking since Christmas and hates being restricted. But I definitely need one in the airport and I’m also hurting my arm lifting him up when we go for walks.

So I’d be grateful for any views on the following:

Chicco Goody - appears to be quite upright and is £169

Mamas and Papas Airo - again is very upright but how will it handle bumpy terrain?

The Yo-yo is just too dear. What about:

Silver Cross Jet/Clic

Ergobaby Metro Plus

Joie Pact

I know my LO will get very frustrated if not upright and he’s also more like the size of a 2.5 year old.

Many thanks!

I'm currently looking at travel strollers and having the same upright back dilemma too so hoping this will bump the post.

The Joie Pact is not very upright at all, I have seen it in person and that's put me off that one.

@Sooty1983 we have a mountain buggy nano which have no complaints about (had it ages so feel I am well placed to say that!). Only thing is with these, if the plane is too full etc they can always ask you to check the pushchair. So we have always just checked it in the first place then handed it over at the gate. Last flight in the summer, admittedly baby was only 4 months, we took whole travel system to the gate and had baby in carrier for the flight and it was fine.

It might be over budget we have a Joolz Aer and it’s incredible. I travelled solo with a 10 month old and it was perfect for our easyJet flight. It has one handed fold so I could hold on to my DS whilst folding it. Easy to carry and easy to use.

The yo-yo is the only one that actually fits within plane dimensions I think to officially take on board. We with tall 2.5 year old and he has plenty of space

I would get a secondhand yo-yo

I think so, but depends how upright you mean. The back isn’t fixed tight so they can always sit bolt upright with the back further back if you haven’t done the straps up super tight. I’m sure that’s what Ds has done in London taxis before.

best thing is to go to John Lewis or somewhere else they have in store and try out a few in person

I have the Chicco Goody - not upright enough for my toddler😑

I’m in Greece as we speak 😂 after travelling solo with my 20 month old. The Mamas and Papas Airo would have been lovely and v upright if my son was half his size, he looks more 2.5/3yo 🙈

The Yo-yo was too expensive and too laidback for the amount I’ll use it. The Joolz Aer does look super as it’s so upright, but could not get a cheap enough one second-hand.

In the end I bought a second-hand Silver Cross Jet for £70. It folds to the Easyjet cabin dimensions (paid extra for a larger item). It’s definitely two hands for folding/unfolding and take a bit of practice, but okay. Nice to handle and light - took it over lots of pebbles in the Old Town today.

It is definitely not upright at all though, after a while my DS who is has not been used to buggies for months got frustrated, so I took the shoulder straps down (kept the bottom ones secured) and let him sit upright (back not supported but he held on to the bar).

There are lots of umbrella-fold strollers which would never fit in the cabin which are much more upright - like Silver Cross Pop. As it happens, I only benefited when I arrived in Greece and only for 5 mins, but that would have felt like an eternity without the buggy. I would never have managed getting into the terminal and getting my suitcase and travel cot off the conveyor belt while lassoing my sprinting toddler without the buggy.

I know the following are ok as a larger cabin item on EasyJet for sure:

Ergobaby Metro+
Babyzen Yo-yo
Joolz Aero
Bugaboo Butterfly
GB Pockit
Cybex Eezy S Twist (this also looked pretty upright! But latest version too expensive second-hand)

Some others too…

Ah that’s a shame! Wanted to try that in person somewhere, glad I didn’t order it.

Sorry I missed this reply before! Did you manage to get one?

I just had a bog standard MacLaren stroller, it served me well. I got it when ds was 3 months old & it survived being dumped in the car boot, in the hold luggage on two lots of flights, being pushed for miles, being used to carry 40 litres of drinking water when loading the stuff for the caravan, numerous bags of shopping being hooked over the handles, it was bomb proof.
