  1. I really dislike the way toddlers stand in front of wherever you are trying to be so you trip over them.

2. Wanting everything I've got - "I want MY hair dried".

3. Biting my tongue so I don't swear. Hip flask would help.

4. The whine of the washing machine coupled with whine of a toddler.

5. Endless farking meals on farking plates which get spilled on the farking floor

I PROPOSE A MUMSNET HIP FLASK - WHO'S GOING TO DESIGN IT?

not being able to nip out to the cinema/restaurant/friend's house at the drop of a hat
strapping children into car seats and banging head on top of car
getting buggy in and out of car
planning of logistics to get out of London for a day trip

oh but in that case Counting we should add that it IS all worth it!
Well mostly....

(I do speak as someone who had trouble getting pregnant so maybe I should just be grateful to have ds at all!!)

This should definitely be nominated as a classic thread to be brought out when those without children ask...

what's it really like being a mother?

what have you done all day?

what are your plans for the weekend?

Planning/shopping for meals and cooking...dull dull dull dull (annoys me more that DH really enjoys it)

Having to ask DH for money is really dull too (especially when I have to justify what I have spent the £30 he 'only gave me last week' on)

The repetition of it generally is really beginning to get me down at the moment

Having to get dd dressed for outside in winter just because I want to hang out the bloody washing.

Having to go upstairs at toddler pace just because I want to put the washing away.

Oh yes, and the washing!

Having gone shopping with DS this morning for the first time without his buggy, I would have to say that having to s l o w l y is torturous.

Reading Boris the Monster with the little additions added ie pretending to feed Boris his picnic - every single item in the basket every single night for the past 6 months. I could cry with boredom sometimes.

Bathtimes - utterly exhausting rather than dull.

Coming up with nutritious yet edible meals that both DC will eat. If I cant I have been known to cook four meals for DD, DS, DH and then myself.

The big clear up after DC have gone to bed.

Other than that I love it all.

NineUnlikelyTales:

I hate Mr Tickle for the same reason. My 2 year old wants it read to her every night. She looks at me adoringly and says 2ticky ticky mummy".

Reading Ness The Nurse. I love reading to DS but that book is one of his favourite and it makes me want to gnaw my arms off. And we only have it from the library so it comes in 3 week bursts with rests in between. Heaven knows what it would be like if we owned it. I might have a nervous breakdown.

And if you've hurt yourself or worse
Be sure to send for Ness The Nurse

What is WORSE than hurting yourself? Well being dead is worse I suppose but no point in calling the sodding nurse.

I have a list:

Tidying toys away
Pushing the swing in the park
Going to the park
Coxing DD to walk to the shop inside of an hour
Chasing DD round my bedroom whlst trying to get her dressed
The Night Garden
Sorting, hanging out and folding the endless piles of washing
Cleaning bottles
Spoon feeding
Constantly having to watch DD whilst out instead of reading the paper like the parents with the older kids
Constantly wiping food off my clothes
Cleaning that stupid booster seat I have at the table
Getting in/out of the car seat
The night routine: the bath in particular
Reading the same story over and over again
Going to any of the toddler related classes that my DD loves - particulalry story time at the library
Playgroups
Soft play centres
The tantrums
The whingeing
Potty training
Doing ring a bloody roses over and over again
The repetitive "whats that questions" about the same page on the same book every night
Getting up in the night

I could go on but I wont as I am now making myself look like the worlds worse mother Love DD and wouldnt change her for the world but the relentless nature of parenting is tedious. You'd never have guessed!

Repetition of books is bad enough, but when it comes to singing - on long, long car journeys - it's enough to drive you bonkers. Especially when it's the same old songs over and over and over again.
I sing until I'm hoarse and want to cry or bash my skull on the steering wheel from the tedium of it!
If I go quiet and renege on my singing duties, I get a chirpy little prod - 'Come on, mummy; sing with me!' - and the guilt stirs me to action.
And at Xmas time, it's endless Away in a Manger... and Jingle Bells.
SCREAMMMMMMMM

Jane, oh yes that is a truely horrendous way to go. I won't do it any more.
I did it for such a long time when the ds's were small, it was cold, lonely and boring.
Then I had three dd's and they didn't need "running" as much as the boys (me, sexist?)
