My 8 year old is a cry baby

How can i help him? I have never called him this when he comes to me i give him a cuddle, do i need to be harsher? The tears only last a few mins.

Here are some examples
He had £5 to spend on a day out yesterday, he spent a pound on something that was useless so he wasted a pound, he burst into tears.
This day out was his birthday and he had 3 friends with him, they all went on a ride he was too scared to go on so he burst into tears.

His friends reactions was to roll their eyes and ignore him, but i know he has been called a cry baby at school.

Sorry, posted that before OP's reply had appeared.

Ok well planning on being harsh with a child is completely different to planning on chivvying them out of their mood, so I was reacting the the OP's actual words used. And I suppose I was also thinking that maybe the OP was disappointed that her son was a cry baby, because some people think that boys should repress their feelings, and that crying is inappropriate for boys in a way that it isn't for girls. This at least has been my experience.

(got called into a meeting)
by harsh i didn't mean make him stand in the corner wearing a dunces hat.
And just checking it isn't okay to jokingly call my son a crybaby somewhere he will never see but it is ok to call me "Apart from the hard of understanding." to my face.

It's not to your face, it's on the internet.

And it really didn't come across as a joke. How were we meant to know that you didn't actually mean it?

for goodness' sake, let it go, Petitgrain.

OP, you've had some good advice on here. It's horrible when you feel that your child's personality will get them mocked.

Op, I know how you feel, my 10 year old dd has always been very emotional and will cry at the slightest thing, she is beginning to control herself as she knows if she cries in front of other children they are likely to laugh or call her a cry baby. Some children just take longer to learn to control their emotions and some are more sensitive than others.

I'm sorry there is nothing wrong with the OPs thread title and wanting to find a way to help her DS.

A cry baby is what his peers at school will say, it's exactly what the DDs peer group called the girl at school who cried.

I'm sorry you can't gloss over the fact that primary DC aren't nice. My dyslexic DD1 was very easy to fluster and get to fuss. That was good sport too.

OP there is lots of good advice here, I hope something will help.

It's a real shame our DCs have to develop thick skins and put on an act, but they do.
