What did you buy for the second child?

We are ttc #2 and dd is only 15mo so we have everything really. The only thing I can think of is another bath ramp.as the last one was used daily for six.months and was totally worn out.

What did you buy for #2? Was there anything that you didnt use with #1 that has been a great purchase for the second.one?

Useful thread - am awaiting the arrival of DC2 in 3 weeks!

DD is four so we won't need double buggies etc.
I saved all her clothes and toys so we don't need any of that (everything for the first few months was gender neutral as we didn't know what we were getting, so all the stuff, at least to start with, will be fine for a girl or a boy).

I have so far bought new:
Moses basket matress
bath cushion
first outfit
decor for nursery (not exactly necessary but I was living in rented accomodation last time and was not allowed to decorate it so have enjoyed putting together a proper baby room this time!) I haven't bought new furniture for it, we are using dd's old changing table and moses basket etc, but I bought paint for the walls and a new rug!

I am planning to invest in a new door bouncer as the one I was given last time proved not to be all that safe - dd managed to spin in it in such a way that she turned upside down, rather than round in a circle (no, I don't know how she managed it) so I want one that is a little more secure. But not yet, and I may ask for it from relatives who decide they want to buy something for the baby and don't know what to get.
May also get new bottles but I bf last time (until I went back to work - I tried to carry on and express but failed) but I don't plan on going back as early this time round so it may not be an issue. So I haven't got any bottles yet, in case I turn out not to need them.

Upgraded bouncy chair to a Babybjorn baby sitter having used a friends and loved it when DS1 was 6months.Actually bought 2,one for downstairs & 1 for upstairs,was invaluable when got DS2 out of the bath first etc.

The caboo dx has buckles instead of tying, but is otherwise the same, if you're really unsure.

We have a 30 month gap. We converted the pushchair to a double, which has been really useful. The sling was also new.

I had to replace most of the clothes, because first was a summer born girl and second was a winter born boy so even coats etc are completely the wrong size. Although if DD had her way, DS would be wearing dresses.

Got an insert for the carseat so baby is warm, and doesn't need a snowsuit, but can be unzipped as you go inside with it.

Also got a bed for DD so we can use the cotbed as a cot again.

The Caboo looks great singsong amd I do like the idea of the travel cot with the bassinette. With dd, she was in her moses basket til 4mo then the travel.cot.in our room til 6mo.

We ended up buying loads! There was a 21 month gap. DS1 wouldn't go in a bed before DS2 was born so we bought a cheap crib (which DS2 has NEVER slept in as he will only co-sleep), a sling, a double pushchair (great for a few months and had lie flat option for DS2, we sold it after 6 months and used single and a buggy board), car seat (DS1's was a cheapo one that had gone mouldy in storage). Later on we bought a new nice cot mattress to try and tempt DS2 into the cot (DS1 went into a bed about 3 months after DS2 was born), it didn't work, he still co-sleeps.
Most of the things we bought was because we were really really skint when we had DS1 (students), he was unplanned and we just had to get the cheapest of everything. When we had DS2 we replaced some of the cheapo stuff with "nicer" stuff. I still feel guilt over the fact that DS1 spent 2 years sleeping on a 20 quid mattress but he didn't seem to mind and slept beautifully!

Gap will be almost three years. Already have slings and hoping to avoid double buggy. Would like to trade our icandy for a mountain buggy though. Also had the bedside cot from dc1 as well.

DS2 will be born when DS1 is approx 25mo. So far my shopping list consists of: a sling (had a BabyBjorn with DS1 but didn't love it). Reins for DS1.

Other than that.. nothing. We're going to wait till DS2 is born to see if we need a double buggy or a buggy board. Might not even need either though (we have a separate pram & a buggy). Depending on your sleeping arrangements you might need another cot? We're going to co-sleep so don't need one.

Oh and we got a new carseat for DS1 as he was growing out of it and we need it freed up for DS2. So yeah.. it seems most stuff is for DS1, not actually for the new baby

We got a multi-purpose portable bassinet/playpen/change table which we kept in the living area downstairs, it meant DD2 could nap there, get changed there - it also had great storage underneath the bassinet which we kept clothes/muslins/nappies - we only used it for the first 4 months - but it was perfect for that time. She only slept upstairs when we went to bed.

We have kept it to use as travel cot and playpen.

We also got a jumperoo this time which has been great, definitely needed that this time.

I got a stretchy wrap to use for the first few months so I had hands free to do things with DD1. I liked it but didn't use it very long.

We have also got an Ergo baby carrier this time which is way better than the Baby Bjorn we used first time. I carried DD2 in it for 3 hours at the weekend and she is 22 lbs now - did not hurt at all.

Rocking chair. Cot bed as ds is still in his age 4. Moby and other stretchy sling, so managed without a double buggy.

Breast pads, sippy cup, chest of drawers - about it!

We got a double buggy when dd was about 3 months - before that I just used the sling for her (ds was 2.6 when she was born). Still use the buggy now 15 months later as its great for longer trips when ds gets tired.

My excuse was that we had moved house, so to be fair the old cot (which was huge) didn't fit DC2's room very well. So we had a new smaller cot (which he slept in, ooh, 5 times), new buggy (old one too big/bulky), new high chair (well, a spare really as we needed to accommodate DN when she visited).

Then DC2 ended up being a different gender, so clothes too!

We got a manduca too for DH as he's come round to slings now and mine are too girly apparently. A swing seat as we borrowed one last time and some new vests. That's about it.

A Moby wrap, it was great for the first few months. A breastfeeding pillow, a luxury I couldn't afford first time round. Muslins and face cloths to replace the well used ones we had for dc1. A new stroller, one that is actually stearable...

2nd baby 3 1/4 years apart I've bought:

1. New pram (old one rubbish and I'd given it to a charity shop before expecting a "surprise" second child!)
2. New changing mat as the old one was ripped in 2 places
3. New cot mattress for cotbed for safety reasons
4. New 'troll co-sleeping crib' as will have c section this time round and will need the extra help/convenience
5. New car seat (gave the old one away as wasn't expecting another pregnancy
6. Cute little cot cuddly toy as it was sooooooo soft!

BUT..... No new clothes or bedding as I am having a second boy and had stashed everything in the loft, meaning to give it all to my sister in law when she starts her family, but will just use it all again first!

Hi Mortified. Have a look at the Close Caboo doing which is a soft, stretchy material wrap, but already tied, so you only need to adjust the fit rather than construct the whole thing IYSWIM. I used mine so much for DD2 [22 month age gap].

I didn't want a hand tied sling as I had visions of it coming undone. I have the coorie, its just folded stretchy fleece fabric worn as a sash that baby slips into.

Bought new buggy cos the first was a bad buy. Too heavy and killed my back. Buggy board to hold Ds (2 and a half). some pink things to wear as all previous things were blue . moved ds into bed to use for new baby. but did buy new mattress.

About the stretch wrap - are they all hand tied? I like the Bjorn for the clasps - made me feel a bit more secure.

Yep. no.double buggy for me. DDs pram.is a Maclaren XLR that lies totally flat so fine to use from three.months so can swap them round and at 15mo she already walls.along to the park, to the corner shop etc.

DC2 on the way, DC1 will be 26 months. We've bought a double pram, a new bed for DC1, and a second tripp trapp chair with a newborn set, so DC2 can "sit" at the table with us.

Already had a Baby Björn and a stretchy wrap (must get back from friend who has borrowed it!).

Really? No double buggy? Braver than me. I had to buy snowsuit etc as my two were born at different times of the year. I also borrowed a Moses basket as I didn't bother first time. Quite handy for naps around the house.

A better sling. The bjorn only lasted until 4-5 months. I got a better structured one (manduca) and a stretchy one for indoors.

I got a few nice sleep suits and a cuddly toy.
And an ikea Highchair.
