Help anyone! I've got a major phobia of the dentist where later today I am having a tooth extraction (rear molar). It is under IV sedation but stupid me just watched a video of someone being sedated but still screaming as they felt the numbing injection in their gum. Why did I watch that??!!? That's the bit I'm scared of most. Reassurance please of people who have had it done and didn't feel any pain.

Ds had 4 teeth out in one go, with 8 injections and was fine (was about 14 at the time) I had my wisdom teeth out and was also fine. It’s a moment in time and the injections take a second to apply. Try to relax your muscles rather than tense them, and good luck

I've had teeth pulled. Not sore. Injection not sore either. If you don't like injections they can numb the gum with local anaesthetic. I would describe it as unpleasant. It's very quick so not long enough to start being bothered by unpleasantness.

I had a rear molar extracted a month ago.
It was an emergency appointment because I had awful toothache. The relief I got from being numb was great. I asked to be made super numb so had quite a few injections, the first was a little uncomfortable but the subsequent ones felt fine.

I had my lower wisdom tooth removed about 6 weeks ago with no sedation and it was honestly fine, I have very bad anxiety in general and panicked so much but it was actually fairly easy and only took 10 minutes from start to finish. I took a stress ball to squeeze and that helped, I also tried to do deep breathing through my nose which calmed me down. Good luck, you will be fine!

I had a small rear molar out last week. I was not expecting it. Dentist just announced it needed to be done and could do it then and there. It was all done and dusted in about 10 mins. 2 injections barely hurt and tooth just popped out. My mouth feels so much better
You will be totally fine. focus on your breath, don't look at what the dentist is doing.

I had a back molar out under sedation last year, and I'm terrified of the dentist too (hence the sedation). Honestly it was fine! Being sedated, I was aware of everything and felt awake, but I just honestly didn't care and felt quite relaxed through the whole thing. It's really nice not having to worry about the bad tooth any more! Just think about being out the other side and not having this hanging over you any more. You can do it!

Could you have a chat with the dentist and ask that they not numb your gum until you're sedated. Explain your fears and hopefully they'll reassure you.

I’ve not had sedation, but I have had teeth extracted. It’s fine.

Come back later on, I guarantee you’ll say the same!

Ah bless you. I’m quite sure it won’t be nearly so bad as you’re imagining, these things rarely are. I had a molar pulled earlier this year, just with numbing injections. Unfortunately those injections don’t actually work very well at all on me (it’s a long story!) but they had nothing else to offer and I just wanted it done so said to go ahead anyway… it was fine. It only took three minutes of actually pulling the tooth out 😂

It's not the most fun thing to do in a day but it's fine. My rear molar extraction wasn't an easy one and took ages but it was still ok. It didn't really hurt, it was more uncomfortable because I had my mouth wide open for so long. I stared at a spot on the ceiling until I decided to close my eyes - I could have gone to sleep if I didn't have to hold my mouth open. The injection is unpleasant but momentary - count to 4 and it's done. My mum is terrified of dentists and I have a lot of compassion x
