Miss Polly had a Dolly

Miss Polly had a Dolly that was sick, sick, sick
So she phoned for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick
The doctor came with his bag and his hat
And he knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat.

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head.
And he said, Miss Polly, put her straight to bed.
He wrote on his paper for a pill, pill, pill.
I?ll be back in the morning with my bill, bill, bill.

Miss Polly's little dolly soon got out of bed,
So she called out the doctor and she said, said, said,
I don't think that dolly really was that ill,
So I don?t think that I?m going to pay your bill.

The doctor was angry and he said look here,
If you waste my time, then you must pay, I fear.
Miss Polly went as pale as a ghost, ghost, ghost,
And said I?ll put a cheque into the post, post, post.

Hope that helps Smile

Miss Polly

Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick
So she called for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick
The doctor came with his bag and his hat
And he knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat
He looked at the dolly and he shook his head
He said, 'Miss Polly put her straight to bed'
He wrote on a paper for a pill, pill, pill
I?ll be back in the morning with my bill, bill bill.

Miss Polly?s other dolly had a pain pain pain
The doctor had to come again gain gain
Where does it hurt
In your foot or your ear
Dolly said my tummy hurts here here here
He looked at the dolly and he shook his head
He said, 'Miss Polly put her straight to bed'
He gave her some pink stuff
And before too long
Dolly?s tummy ache was gone gone gone

Miss Polly?s little teddy felt sore sore sore
The doctor had to come once more more more
Where does it hurt
In your knees or your toes
Teddy said I?m blocked in my nose nose nose
He looked at the teddy and he gave a smile
He said, 'Miss Polly he?ll be fine in a while
Tuck him up nicely with a glass of warm honey
Soon Teddy?s nose will be runny runny runny

Our version is:

Horsey Horsey, don't you stop
Just let your feet go clippitity clop
Yours tail goes swish and your wheels go round
Giddy up, we're homeward bound

We ain't in a hurry, we ain't in a flurry
So don't go tearing down the road
We ain't in a hustle, we ain't in a bustle
And we ain't go a very heavy load

So....

(Repeat first verse again)

Horsey, horsey, don't you stop,
let your little feet go clickety clop,

I bought a book of this song as it was my favourite when I was at playschool (it's about all I can remember of my pre school years!). However, I had remembered the line as

"He looked at the dolly and he shook his head
And he said 'Miss Polly she will soon be dead'"

But I knew that somehow this probably wasn't the right version (or were things much tougher in the 1970s?)

I thought it was " wrote out a paper" ( ie script)

I always thought the doctor said "I'll be back in the morning yes I will will will"

Bit kinder than turning up brandishing a bill, but I guess that is more realistic these days

AH, but now you need the actions ...

Miss Polly had a dolly [rock an imaginary dolly] who was sick, sick, sick
So she called [dial imaginary phone] for the doctor to come quick, quick quick
The doctor came with his bag and his hat
And he knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat [knock imaginary door]

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head [needs no explanation really]
And said [wag finger as if telling off dd] "Miss Polly, put her straight to bed"
He wrote on a paper [yes, write on imaginary paper with imaginary pen] for a pill, pill, pill
"I'll be back in the morning with my bill, bill, bill".
