thank you everyone!!!

i swore at it,threatened to put it in the nappy bin (oh yes,im ruthless,no ordinary bin would have been bad enough!!),i pulled its bits and bobs to bits, replugged them in and with one last evil glance,it surrendered and started printing!!!

it is now struggling through 40 invites!!!ha!!!i'll teach it to mess with me!!!Grin

but thank you everyone for suggesting what to do!!!

When you say 1 pending for dh.... you need to delete / kill this job IMHO.

Polgara2 · 22/05/2006 16:25

You can get at it from the Start menu, printers and faxes!

When you have the printer window open and go into properties, ask it to print test page see if this works.

Does it do any of the print tests like checking nozzles or cleaning print heads?

Control Panel, Printers, select your printer.

When you have the little window up, select printer again.

There is an option 'use printer offline'.

I can never remember which way round it is but either tick or untick then try printing again.

it doesnt say paused or anything.dh filled it up with ink last time it was used.(about a week ago)

think might just blame dh for doing something to it!

dont understand why its just sat there looking at me not doing as its been told!!(must have been paying attention to my kids!!Grin)

Will it print from another application? Or like a screen dump from the internet?

Right click on the little icon, open the active printer, right click on the document and purge the printer. Then start again......maybe!?!

In extremis, Windows can lose USB capability... it kind of forgets it's there IYSWIM. Fairly rare, but it does happen... I presume your USB bus / hub is visible, and 100% OK in 'Devices Manager' / 'hardware manager' thingy ?

Are you sure your queue is not paused, and that the printer is not wanting ink, and is not 'off line' (ie you might need to press ;online' or 'ready' or 'go' or somesuch...

Turn printer off. Turn computer off. Wait 30 seconds. Turn printer on. Turn puter on. See if that helps ? Check cable sitting very soundly at each end, and you could do worse than trying another USB port (is it a attached to a hub per chance ?)

Else - Control Panel / Printers / look at the print jobs... it can be possible to 'pause' the print spooler so jobs 'back up' (like a blocked drain), and you will need to unpause the jobs. It will then splurge out crap for ages (with print jobs you asked it to do which it didn't do IYSWIM).

Is the printer set to 'Pause printing'? Right click on the little printer icon in the bottom right corner (if it's there) & check.

Polgara2 · 22/05/2006 16:10

Assuming you do find your printer listed click on it to see if any documents are waiting to be printed. May sound obvious but have you checked all the cables in the back of the printer AND the back of the pc, they can get knocked sometimes and won't talk to each other if connection not secure.
