Pre school

Currently looking at preschools for my nearly 2 year old.

We looked round one today and they said they do all 'free play' so no guided activities/lessons etc. Is this usual for a pre school?

They had lots out to do like a painting table, craft table, books, toys, outside slide/sandpit etc.

First time mum so not sure what to expect really! We are looking round others too to compare.

Child led learning? What "lessons" were you anticipating? Do they have any structure to the sessions ie. Circle time, snack time.

It sounds normal for a 2 year old. It's different for a preschooler.

Sounds ideal - it is PRE-school so nothing formal, other than maybe a structure for the day. Time enough for lessons.

Not really sure what I was anticipating to be honest - hence asking on here for what the norm is so I know what to look out for.

Good to know it's likely child led. This particular one has snack time. I will see what the others are like!

My sons nursery when he was 2 was just like this. Mostly free play.
He moved over to the Early Years room last Easter before he turned 3 in July, as he was ready (he’s late summer born so starts school this September at just turned 4).
they wear uniform, have structured days where they learn phonics, writing etc and he absolutely loves it! He is so ready for school now and can write his name, do basic maths like 2+2 etc. it’s all stuff I would never have had the time or patience to have taught him.
