Baby sleep on non-nursery days

My 12 month old started nursery beginning of January, mon-thurs 8-5 so long days but hes taken to it really well.

On a non-nursery day (today for example) he sleeps in for at least an hour extra which is fine, we often have to wake him anyway. But it's the napping I'm not sure is normal this morning hes gone back to bed after breakfast and is still asleep after 2 and a half hours and no sign of waking.

He will probably have another 90 minutes this afternoon and will still go to bed at normal time and sleep through.

In a way I'm not complaining as he obviously needs it but I'm worried that maybe nursery is too stimulating for him as he doesn't nap so much there and we are doing some.long term damage or something!

Does anyone else's babies do this once they start nursery?

Thanks all that's reassuring to know. Hes obviously just having far too much fun at nursery. Hes been asleep for over 3 hours now I'm hoping his tummy will wake him up soon! Feel awful worrying about it we've got baby no.2 due in a couple of months and no doubt I'll be begging for this time back.

I just wish they could say to you 'right I'm going for a long kip now so you crack on with what you need to rather than sitting there anxiously watching the monitor for me to wake up'.

My son likes to go back to sleep after breakfast at home too. He doesn’t nap until about 10 at nursery as he’s having too much fun. The same goes for milk - he will happily still have milk in the afternoon at home, but isn’t willing to stop playing for 10 mins at nursery. We just go with it. I try to keep meals and snacks roughly the same times and then just put him down for naps when he looks tired.

Both my kids were extra tired for a couple of months after starting nursery. My 4 year old, who stopped napping at 2, even started taking naps again when he started long days! I wouldn't worry unless he seems exhausted and unhappy the rest of the day. Just let him nap and enjoy a peaceful coffee yourself. Before you know it he'll be on one nap and then none...

My 12 month old is the other way around! Regularly naps for 2 hours at Nursery, never more than 45 mins here!

My 20 month old sleeps barely an hour on nursery days and then can nap anywhere from 1-3 hours on home days. She loves nursery and would prefer to be active and doing things with her friends and sleep. I think it's actually good she loves it so much. We've started putting her to bed 30-40min early on nursery days to compensate for this and it all seems to be working fine. I really doubt there is any long term damage, My girl has been going to nursery since 11 months. She is happy and confident and very lively, definitely thriving.
