We'll see - she had a lovely gospel/slightly black voice as a young teen then wanted to sing properly so I sent her to a 'proper' singing teacher & she came out with a small thin soprano

BGM's husband had a go at getting her real voice out, & it really helped - I think we will have to go back (if he will have us) for another go

KatyMac

My dd singing teachers are telling her that her voice will be mature enough for opera and classical when she is in late twenties and will improve through her 30's.
I know your dd is much older than mine and not studying classically but it just shows how long it takes to become fully mature.
Your dd will improve as she gets older, especially if she has a good teacher.

yes mesmerised is a good word!

Living closer doesn't help when you are broke Sad

I wish I lived closer to London there is so much I'd like to see.

My dd had a cold and went to bed but she'll catch it again no doubt.

How amazing and for me completely blew away the efforts of TSOM, which was atrocious Grin
I don't have a complaint, which isn't like me at all. It's also not my dh thing at all, yet he sat mesmerised and described it as almost perfection.
Imelda Staunton was just exceptional and the other actors, singers and dancers were the top of their game too.

We need to do the same for driving lessons Wink

Dd has a new singing teacher by the way (she gets on better if it's not dad teaching). She's really come on.

I wish we lived closer too.....not just for singing lessons!!

It's not my favourite musical ever - but was blown awayby Imelda Staunton.

Katymac - her voice will be fine (wish we lived closer)

Dd definatly wants to go the MT route. She's passed her assessments so is safe til year 11 - then she has some big decisions to make.

Katymac · 28/12/2015 19:31

fingers crossed for both of them

Yes, same as my DDs college. You get given your track from year 2. At this point in time, we have no idea. It's like the sorting hat in Harry potter.
Love the new pictures. Your DD is obviously working hard and that is everything in this business. That, and being a nice person. My friend is resident director on a big west end show at the moment and she says time and time again, she employs people who are grounded, hardworking and nice. There's not much in it when it comes to talent last a certain point so values are the deciding factor.

Katymac · 28/12/2015 19:06

Do you think - she has certainly worked hard enough (....new photos on my profile Wink)

It's not her decision anyway - the college decide based on ability

Casta - I felt a bit that way, it was amazing and impressive and I was blown away but I've connected with other musicals more

Katymac, remember the voice is like any other muscle- the more you practise the better you get. Plenty of time to exercise that muscle. Your DD will grace the west end stage in a big role- I'll put money on it!

I didn't see the broadcast, but I saw it during the run at the Savoy and - despite being a massive Imelda Staunton fan, and thinking she was very good - I didn't much care for it, rather to my own surprise. I think I'd expected it to be more Sondheim-y, despite knowing he only wrote the lyrics, not the music. I thought Peter Davison (Davidson?) was adequate and I didn't think Lara Pulver was good as Louise, which left it a one-woman show for me, and I found it a bit brassy and one-dimensional. I didn't leave inwardly humming tune for days, and having to look up the lyrics because I was annoying myself half-remembering....

It's made DD decide on DT rather than MT as she can't sing that well Sad

Absolutely. They filmed Legally Blonde on Broadway & of course there was Billy Elliot Live but they should do it more.

Wasn't it?
I wish they'd do it with more shows
