Lyclear and Mumsnet are looking for 100 Mumsnetters who have someone in their family who currently has head lice to try out Lyclear Treatment Shampoo. All selected testers who add their feedback after both the first and second application will be entered into a prize draw to win £250 worth of Love2Shop vouchers.

Here's what Lyclear have to say about their product, "Lyclear Treatment Shampoo is clinically proven to kill 100% of head lice and is as easy to use as washing hair.(1) The unique double action formula suffocates and dehydrates head lice and their eggs and is free from insecticides. The shampoo acts in a purely physical manner, ensuring the head lice do not become resistant to the treatment." Lyclear Treatment Shampoo is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age.

Note: You should only use Lyclear Treatment Shampoo if you have live head lice. Do not use if allergic to any of the ingredients.*

We are looking for Mumsnetters who have head lice themselves, or whose LO has head lice.
If you're selected you will be sent a 200ml bottle which provides up to 8 applications (RRP £14.99).

Lyclear says after checking the hair for lice with the fine toothed comb enclosed you should evenly apply the shampoo to dry hair, massaging from root to tip, paying particular attention to the neck and behind the ears. Leave on for 10 minutes then wash and rinse the hair thoroughly. Remove dead head lice and eggs with the fine toothed comb, thoroughly cleaning after use. Repeat the treatment after 7 days.

We intend to recruit daily to ship out the products to you as soon as possible so you can test it while you still have a use for it! In order to be eligible for the £250 Love2Shop voucher testers must provide initial feedback immediately after using Lyclear Treatment Shampoo and additional feedback after the second application.

If you would like to take part and try Lyclear Treatment Shampoo yourself, sign up here

Other products within the Lyclear range include Lyclear Treatment Sensitive and Lyclear Treatment Spray which are both clinically proven to kill 100% of head lice.(2,3)

Thanks, MNHQ

Is there a thread we should be putting our 'first treatment' observations on?

MN - I'm not sure how we will do the follow up treatment in 7 days. Only have about 1/4 a bottle left. Not enough for the 3 of us!

Michelle
my method is simple.

  1. with your hair dry pour a 1/3 bottle of Tesco cheap tea tree conditioner all over onto scalp and work it in.

  1. then wrap hair in a towel (turban style) or just put a beanie hat on and wsit for half an hour

  1. comb through hair with a nitcomb (I normally sit in the bath) thoroughly - this takes another half an hour at least - then rinse off conditioner properly and comb through one more time quickly.

ta-da! result every time!

I tend to repeat the process within 3-5 days. tea tree is safe for kids, but only useful if they are old enough to understand to not take the towel or hat (much easier!) off.

good luck!

(btw I have quite thick hair, at least 2 feet/ 60 cms long)

just fund some of the little bastards on DS2 & DS3's hair on Friday.

I've been itching ever since and finally had a chance tonight to get my hair sorted with tea tree conditioner.
I'm lice free! yay!

DH cut boys hair in the afternoon with a hair clipper so that sorted them!Grin

Any mums with long hair struggling to get rid of the b*** things?! My 2 yo got rid of them a month ago but my hair is thick & long and I can't seem to get rid of them. Takes 1.5 hours to nitty gritty with conditioner (& takes half my hair out!). Hedrin didn't work. Any ideas welcome? PS anyone itch more after using Hedrin? I have less lice but more itching as the weeks pass. Thanks

Got ours this morning as well, doing the kids hair and mine tomorrow morning ! I discussed the 100% claim with dh and we were thinking that was a bold statement to make.

Just spent the last hour + treating DD1 and DD2s hair. It was easy to use and smells ok. The comb actually seemed to do ok. Got quite a lot of little lice out Blush. Will check their hair in a couple of days with the nitty gritty and see if I find any more. The ones found were very much dead! Grin

I can't find any in my hair so not sure if I should treat it. My head is itchy but that could be shampoo/hairspray or something.

I got some in the post this morning. Didn't get an email to say been chosen so nice surprise.
Will try it out later today. Not sure about the comb. As others have said, the teeth are quite spaced apart compared to nitty gritty comb.

Agree Shelly and having seen the100% claim I'm really not happy to be honest I expect they combed for a ridiculous amount of time to achieve this in test results , and then in the adverts are just showing the shampoo portion as if that is all you have to do.

It doesn't work, I brought it last week. We have an ongoing battle with head lice, I've tried vinegar, wet combing, hedrin, derbac and lyclear shampoo which was infact the least effective!! The ad is misleading!

I've been chosen but also not just sitting around; I'm wet combing their hair with conditioner and a comb while waiting for the shampoo to arrive.

5madthings · 29/08/2013 17:42

i have been chosen. also not waiting as have been combing with nitty gritty everyday, only found a few but will use the treatment as well. should arrive tomorrow.

I can't imagine anyone is sitting around waiting!

It's a full time production here with 3 girls all with long curly hair. Every hair wash includes a conditioner and comb check before washing, takes ages and the DC hate it - needs must though!

Super - I haven't waited we have combed & conditioned with the nitty gritty and also used Full Marks In the last 14 days. This came up so applied this morning and got reply this afternoon.

Could I just point out that I am not "just sitting around waiting" before doing anything.

We have been using conditioner and nitty gritty comb for the last four days. This product test just so happened to pop up so I thought it was worth a try to sort it out sooner as they're back at school next week.

There was also no sitting and waiting to be selected as I applied yesterday and received the treatment today.

My goodness. If we had them I wouldn't be waiting to find out if I have been selected and then have to wait for it to arrive until I treat it. Shock

QueenofClean · 29/08/2013 13:37

I've been selected so we will see.its the eggs which are the worst thing and I have an Aspie child who has a really ishoo sitting still for long periods of time so getting them out in one sitting can't be done.

NotShortImFunSized · 29/08/2013 12:37

Mine has just arrived in post. 2 things so far, I can't see a bottle that size doing 8 people with normal length hair, maybe 8 boys with short hair Wink and the comb seems to have very big gaps. I'm not sure how effective that will be in nit removal but I shall see how it goes.

Thank you for the shampoo though!

insanityscratching - I was very disappointed and it only does 8 if the are all very small people with short fine hair - it took 2 bottles to do 4 of us ;( and then did not work ! The combs are a joke as well

Report
insanityscratching · 29/08/2013 11:09

Mindmaps that was exactly my experience. Not sure even Lyclear expect it to work as they advise you to wet comb before and after with a comb that is practically useless. You may as well save your money, smother in conditioner and comb with a Nitty Gritty. Wonder if Lyclear will be refunding all the people for whom it hasn't worked?

SoupDragon · 29/08/2013 10:45

I wonder if this will have the same level of keen response as the "try out this expensive fridge and get to keep it" one?

thank god we havent got nits at the moment, he starts his new school soon. I cant apply as we dont have nits but what i will give as feedback having used a lot of lice treatments in the past, is that its good one bottle does up to 8 applications - because its no good buying solution for one head when you have a family!

Sorry have tried this and it was rubbish - had to redo with Headrin and a nitty gritty 2 days later

Done - so hope we get selected as I can't seem to get rid of the bloody things :(
