Insomnia after miscarriage?

Hey everyone I had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago and ever since then my sleeping is horrendous, I go to bed about 9ish which is my normal but then I can't sleep and sometime see 1:30am. Then I get to sleep and I wake up at 4am wide awake for a couple of hours. Then I fall asleep again but wake up at 10 absolutely knackered.

Should say I'm currently off work the now as I'm not coping after it. Emotionally drained all the time.

Is this normal?

Hi just seen this , it’s good to hear it’s not just me , thought I was losing it . I’ve noticed bad insomnia after each of my miscarriages and assume it’s due to hormones plummeting , I read one person wrote that their doctor said your body goes Into a tailspin especially after a d&c as it’s a sudden removal of the pg . After my last two mcs I had it bad at first but it got better over time , after a month or so . This time I’m getting really vivid nightmares, waking it feels like every thirty minutes and totally exhausted all day and hard to focus at work . I know from experience it does get better though xx

@Annie1211 I'm the same struggling to get to sleep and stay asleep and having crazy dreams every night. It might not be for you but I didnt think it was me but I'm meeting with a Councillor on Tuesday through a local charity, they say we deal with things in our dreams so I cant only assume that explains it. I found out I had a MMC in july and im still not sleeping right

Hi @Annie1211 I experienced this too. I would get up really early because I was fed up of laying awake in bed. Then I was exhausted so I just moved to the sofa all day. It's so bloody hard but it will get better. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Have you tried taking iron tablets? I think they may have helped me a bit

Hey, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I also had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago and am sleeping horribly. Also having sad dreams and feeling completely low and lethargic. Luckily work are really understanding (my boss went through something identical last year so keeps pushing for me to take days off if I need it). It seems like lots of people go through this. The crazy mix of hormones, overwhelming of loss and (for me anyway) nervousness of the future makes it completely understandable. Friends who have been through similar things say that it can take 3+ months for things to settle down. Please don't feel alone. I hope things improve soon and that you get the chance to take the time you need to look after yourself.
