Hi, I had a missed miscarriage back in April this year. I told my acupuncturist that Im trying again and she alerted me that theres a high chance I could miscarry again, as I have a cold uterus!! I always have cold feet and hands and my heartbeat is, apparently, not as strong as other peoples. This, she said, all contributed to my miscarriage. The coldness is a sign of bad circulation, and the uterus needs a strong supply of blood so the embryo attaches strongly. If you think this is you I urge you to Google 'cold uterus'. There are suggestions on how to warm up your uterus i.e always keep your hands and feet warm, have hot baths, acupuncture for heat treatment, drink/eat hot things, exercise to get the blood pumping, ginger and mugwort apparently help too. It is especially important to do this in your 2ww. Please let me know what you think of this, and/or whether you think this applies to you. She also said this is more than likely to be the cause of women who have had multiple miscarriages.

She also said this is more than likely to be the cause of women who have had multiple miscarriages????

sorry, but i think that is nonsense, and in parts offensive.

believe what you like, but as someone who has had 9 miscarriages i find the fact I had a cold uterus a lit daft

SilveryMoon · 14/08/2011 13:17

I've had 3 miscarriages. 2 natural and 1 missed.
I can't say that I agree with what you've been told and tbh, IMO, sounds like crap, but will google 'cold uterus' and have a read for myself.
I also have 2 perfectly healthy boys who I carried without issue.
I understand how needing to lay blame somewhere helps in the grieving process and helps us to come to terms with what's happened, but I do think that these things just happen.
I'm sorry for your loss.

didnt mean to upset anyone! this only applies if you always have cold feet and hands. I know people can have multiple miscarriages without ever finding out the cause. dont shoot the messenger! i thought it was all crap when she told me, and a way to get people to spend lots of money, but after googling it alot of other women have been told the same, and the treatment has helped them to carry full term. i thought id be nice and recommend a treatment that i have been recommended, sorry!

I can see the thinking behind blood circluating around the uterus, but that would be more of a clotting issue than a body temp one.

Having a warmer. uterus is not likely to make any difference unfortunately.

If there is a clotting issue it need medication, not just warm baths (please dont advise HOT baths to pg worn, they are not recommended) and exercise.

I can understand the need to have a reason for mc. I have had 4 rmcand would have tried anything to get one to stick.

The chances are you will have a problem free pg next time.

Good luck.

Ignore the spelling and grammer please. Stupid phone!

Im only passing on new information that Ive been told, to see if it can help anyone. Im personally not going to try it yet, as Ive only had one and apparently alot of women miscarry their first pregnancy and that is/was enough to help me through the grieving process. I posted so IF there was a woman out there thinking, "gosh thats me, i always have cold hands and feet" then maybe this could help them.

I am not advising pregnant women to have hot baths!!!!! Gosh no!! It is advised to have hot baths/showers in the 2ww to help pump blood around stronger. This only applies to women with bad circulation. It also says you can sit with a hot water bottle on your tummy in the 2ww too. I dont know how true all this is, if it helps just one woman its worth posting it!

What a load of crap.

I can sort of understand where your acupuncturist may be coming from, but I think it is more to do with blood circulation in the uterus. Women with clotting problems normally have bad blood circulation in the womb, which is why they are prescribed blood thinning medicines like aspirin or heparin. Many women who have suffered 3 or more miscarriages are normally put on high dose folic acid which also improves circulation in the uterus. You need good circulation in there so that the right hormones can be continuously released by your ovaries, and that when the placenta forms, the baby can keep getting a flow of nutrients through it. I know alot of old medicine forms, such as Chinese or Ayurvedic refer to things or certain foods as "hot" or "cold" for or in the body, so I don't think it's thats ridiculous when you know this piece of information.

Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

oooh, not sure where to begin with this one...! i had four miscarriages and did go to a very highly recommended acupunturist with my last pregnancy, which was successful. however, i never put my faith in acupunture - it was more of an 'add on' to conventional medicine. I suppose it is possible the acupuncture made my pregnancy successful, but i'm far from convinced. i did it just in case it helped. the whole cold/warm uterus thing is a theory in Chinese medicine, not something original your practitioner has come up with. in any case one miscarriage is not medically significant (of course it's emotionally significant - i know how painful it is and my heart goes out to you) so you don't really need to search for answers. It's most likely just bad luck. i second what others have said about hot baths. i had some very, very hot baths with some of my failed pregnancies and in retrospect do wonder if this played a part. with my most recent pregnancy, the successful one, I was very careful about baths and only took them lukewarm.

paperview · 14/08/2011 20:46

What a load of crap. I have had m/c's and successful pregnancies. How does that work with a cold uterus?

mrsnesbit · 14/08/2011 20:52

utter shite im afraid, not new information, shite information more like.

6 mcs, absolutely nothing to do with temperature. The uterus is deep within the pelvis and is kept at a constant core temperature. It does not get cold when you have cold feet, thats like saying your heart gets a little chill when you have cold feet!
utter rubbish, sorry.

I wonder what esteemed medical school she went to...

no1childminder · 17/08/2011 23:12

thank you for your opinions guys.

sotough i didnt go to see the accupuncturist for fertility treatment, ive been going for 3yrs since i broke my ankle. it helps to keep the joint from going stiff. my usual dr was away and the standing in dr read my notes and saw i had a miscarriage and started asking questions. i left there feeling confused and depressed. i hadnt gone to bring up all the emotions from my miscarriage. i was actually a bit cross with her for making me feel like i couldnt carry a baby, just from having one miscarriage. she has only worried me now, even though my gp has said its actually quite common for a woman to miscarry their first pregnancy and i shouldnt be worried or paranoid about it happening again. i really wish she hadnt of said anything :(
