I'm really suffering a the moment with hot flushes, poor sleep and itchy skin. Just wondered if anyone has had any success with natural remedies or changes in diet.

No, Polly, I'm not jealous. Firstly, because you don't have more knowledge on healthcare than I have.

And I also have private health care.

I wouldn't be jealous of you if neither of the above applied. Very immature of you to suggest so.

Some very useful advice here and polly I appreciate your comments which are obviously supported by experience and knowledge. I have been very anti HRT for no real reason so I'm grateful for any information. I will certainly look into all the advice given on this thread and appreciate anyone giving up their time to give advise. Always good to re-think things!

Cara so why the nasty comments? You come to this thread and offer nothing in the way of knowledge or support, but start attacking me, with rude and personal criticism/

I don't understand people like you. If you w ant to debate the topic, let's debate it- you can share your information and people can make a choice. But not having seen you on the meno forum before, under your name, I don't know what you are really saying.

Not being nasty at all, Polly. I just want you to stop scaremongering.

I've found that very intense exercise 4/5 times a week and increasing my consumption of soya has made a big difference in my symptoms- I can't have HRT because of thrombophilia.

Polly is not scaremongering, why do you say she is Cara. She provides information based on fact, why the issue

I’m on hrt, I need it. I couldn’t function. I do all the right things. I still need it. I’m seeing my Dr on Friday I’m going to ask him to up the dose.

My GP has just prescribed Indivina (tablet form HRT). Anyone any experience of this? I was using patches - but they don't seem to stick on me. HRT has certainly stopped all day/night sweating though - it's marvellous!

I'm interested in this. My hot flushes that I had since before Christmas have suddenly stopped thankfully, but I know not why.

Hot flushes are some of the first signs of peri. It’s a sign that there is some estrogen in the body and in circulation. Afterwards the most severe symptoms of estrogen deprivation will begin, as body aches, muscle loss, brain fog, problems with insulin, hair loss etc. I had hot flashes a year before I realized that I was in meno. I could handle hot flashes and sweats, the more severe and dangerous health symptoms will start later. That’s why estrogen deprivation is so crucial for our health later on life. Sorry for my English ladies!

What helped me:

  • Boots Menolieve. Amazing.
  • cutting down on carbs - sugar, alcohol and other high carb foods
  • cutting back on caffeine

I'm 58 now, and through the other side and I'm fortunate enough to not suffer anything other than the (very) occasional hot flush.

I can't take HRT as my mother died from advanced breast cancer, and had been taking HRT.

I also happen to think that the risks are too great.

Sorry for your mum BIWI! You are lucky to have a normal meno and you don’t need hrt. :)

BIWI · 21/02/2018 20:51

Thanks, Emerald.

I'm sure I am lucky - but also I know that my diet helps enormously. I can always tell if I've had too many carbs/been drinking too much, as the hot flushes do increase, and also increase in intensity!

I tried HRT and could not get on with it at all - had permanent PMS which I never had when having periods. Have felt much better on Vogel's Menopause Support tablets which I get from Amazon. Sleep better, no night sweats or hot flushes. Feeling even better since giving up booze and sugar for Lent.
Been taking them for a few months now. Appreciate that they don't protect my bones but I run, do alot of classes and weights so am trying to ensure minimum bone density loss by this means.

I have an early meno BIWI, I was an athlete before, no carbs for me, only proteins, no alcohol at all, no cigarettes at all! Never! Early meno runs to my family and I feel so unlucky for that!

It's Polly's scaremongering that I object to. Same if anyone ever says they're not having a smear. Up pops Polly to tell them they must, and that her Harley Street gynaecologist recommends women get them done every bloody year!

Fine to share info and personal experience but don't have to be dogmatic.

I agree. I think she believes everyone is really ignorant about hrt and smears, which is not the case. People just choose not to have them.

Report
Emerald13 · 21/02/2018 21:02

I don’t think Polly is dogmatic, she shares her knowledge and everyone can choose and decide, to read, to accept or not. And everyone has his personal style of writing and expressing.

I don't have time to be all fluffy and sugar coat info. I'm usually posting during a working day. Giving the info is factual; handholding is fine when I have more time.

Maybe concentrate on work during your working day, and come onto the forum in the evening when you have time to be a little less dogmatic? You don't have to reply to every thread about the menopause, it is permitted to let one or two slip past ...

OP starts a thread asking if anyone's had any success with natural methods of managing the menopause. Fair enough question I would have thought given that for many women HRT is not an option.

Immediately, Polly jumps in to say The Only Way is HRT. What do you suggest, Polly, women who can't take HRT should do? Sit around and wait for their bones to crumble whilst enduring hot flushes etc?

I know! They could post on the menopause board on MN hoping to get advice from women whose symptoms have been relieved in other ways.

PollyPerky · 22/02/2018 08:23

Cara I have reported your posts.

I am not impressed by your spiteful comments.

If you want to offer some support to the OP do so. I can't see you have contributed anything to her question.

If all you want to do is make spiteful remarks about my posts, without actually offering advice, ask yourself what's behind that behaviour.
You are also misquoting me - re. the smears etc- and now other posters have picked up on this and taken it as fact.

I have nothing more to say to you.

Natural remedies are a life saver for millions of women who can't or choose not to take HRT, equally HRT is a life saver for those who choose to take it, it is so important to respect each other's opinions on a forum. There are ways to make a comment, to deliver a message or voice an opinion, it doesn't take long or cost anything to give one's opinion without undermining or dismissing other posters. It is called respect.

I am out the other side of menopause (at 52) and suffered very little during the actual hot flush/periods stopping bit. Now, 2 years or so down the line I ache from head to toe, can virtually not walk some days and live in brainfog.

My GP suggested HRT and I said no, as I remember my Mum 20 years or so back going on it and the scares bla bla.

Thanks to Polly, when I have time (ain't that the way) I will be going back to the GP and having a chat about it again. I certainly can't go on like this for another 20 years (will apparently retire at about 70)
