Lone parents

Has anyone been on a mini holiday alone ie no kids?!

I am so tempted to book a weekend away to London or somewhere a bit closer.

Just me, no kids, no stress. Just me and a map.

Has anyone else done it? Will I feel horribly guilty for not taking the children?

i've done it a lot - i travel a lot for work and always miss my ds but it doesn't stop me having a good time and making the most of the experience. i left my ds with my mother in law when he was 6 months old and went to cuba with my friend - no guilt, just good times. depends what you're like i suppose but i say if you need a holiday and break from the kids (everyone does from time to time) just go for it!! xx

I've done a few days here and there various times. Best tip to avoid missing them is to go places where they'd be nothing but a pain and wouldn't enjoy. Avoid places that are full of kids.

Have fun

And my opinion is obviously so important I felt the need to say it twice. Grin

I did just that last weekend.
Ex dh looked after the dc at my house I had booked a train and a cheap hotel and off I went.
I did it when I wasn't a lone parent as well.
Like pag said I come back relaxed and energised and I definitely appreciate the dc more after a couple of days away.
It's so easy to get bogged down.
I usually go somewhere that I have friends or family. I spend a lot of evenings on my own so like having the option to meet up with someone.
Last weekend I met a friend for lunch then had an afternoon shopping alone, a nap in my hotel and a boozy night out with some cousins. Was fab.
Go for it. Grin

I'm not a lone parent either but don't see why you shouldn't do it. DP and I are going to Edinburgh for a couple days on Friday. DD is 5 and we actually haven't been away together (individually for work we have) for more than one night since she was born. DD is very excited at staying with grandma and I know we will miss her but we will also really enjoy reading book without much interruption when travelling, going out for dinner later/smarter etc.

I dont think I could take them on a holiday alone just yet. Maybe when they are older but not now!

Right, I am going to look for a nice hotel. Maybe even a spa hotel!! Amazing!

Yes, I've done it a couple of times and love it, my DH also goes off on his own or with mates to do 'his own thing'. I think its great, its also nice for the other parent to have 'quality time' alone with the children; what are the arrangements for the children though, do you have a DH/DP ?

My DS also goes on holidays on his own Grin - school trips/PGL/Scout camp/Church camps - he has a great time, I'm sure he doesn't feel guilty at leaving his parents Grin.

Personally I loathe family holidays

Sorry. That sounded odd. I just mean that there are no childcare issues for me to sort out - I just leave them with dh so no sleepover/babysitter stuff involved.

Thank you! I have plenty of people who will take good care of them.

I am in serious need of a break!

I do it.
I am not a lone parent so there are no problems with them being at home.
But no, other than possibly the day before I don't feel guilty.

It's bloody marvellous and I come back relaxed and re-energised.

Better still I miss them so it's lovely when I come home.

Dh used to push me to go. "how can we miss you if you won't fuck off " he would say. Lovingly Grin
