Disappointed with Egg Collection Today :-(

sheikhandbake · 14/03/2017 15:11

At home recovering after egg collection earlier today. At my last scan the consultant thought we would get 10 to 12 eggs retrieved however we only got 8.

On top of this 3 are quite small so they don't know if they are fully mature. Because of this the embryologist recommended ICSI whereas before everyone was happy for us just to do IVF.

I'm feeling really down, deflated, sore and like we will never have a baby at this rate.

I've never had so much as a whiff of a BFP even after 6 months on Clomid despite having good sized follicles and successfully ovulating on every cycle (whilst on Clomid that is)

Would love some positive stories right now Smile

I had virtually the same result as you (8 eggs, ICSI, 6 fertilised and two transferred on day 2) but I felt really positive after egg collection. This may have been because the attitude of the consultants was very positive. The embryo quality wasn't fantastic, which is why two were transferred and I had 26% chance. It worked and I now have my baby.

I hope you soon get yours Flowers

Unsurprisingly its a BFN Sad.

To be honest I had a feeling the momentum just wasn't there and that it wouldn't work from the moment I woke up after the anaesthetic and was told about the number of eggs we had.

Feeling so drained and deflated. Spent yesterday howling and wailing and today I'm emailing clinics abroad. IVI, Serum and Gest / Reprofit are on my list.

I need to keep ploughing on and planning next steps as I can't imagine our lives without a child in it.

Thanks for all your support.

Yes madrid. Their technology and freezing process is miles ahead of my uk clinic

Plus they gave me higher dose of drugs which meant had more eggs collected and nearly all took to blast - plus they did icsi unlike uk

Think serum is greece and well recommended

Sorry for disappearing and not responding Ziggy, I think I'm as OK as I can be Hmm. Today is day 5 so I am trying to visualise 2 blastocysts inside me.

Congrats Blondes, did you go abroad for your successful cycle? I've got DH's agreement to go abroad for the next cycle if this one doesn't work, not being able to freeze embryos where we are is such a waste. He wouldn't go abroad for this (our first) cycle as he thought it would just add more stress to the situation.

We live in the Middle East so Greece or the Czech Republic would be easiest for us to get to.

Op this is all so stressful but it really does only take one, I got 2 eggs. One of those is currently asleep in my arms ...

Blondeshavemorefun - definitely an option, just haven't researched it properly yet. But from what you've said, it sounds like it would make sense to go to somewhere like Madrid . . . I read that the Czech Republic is a good option, as is the Ukraine . . . I need to study up!

Plan A is to see if we can have our NHS funding transferred to a private clinic (apparently under certain circumstances some CCGs allow this) and if not then we'll invoke Plan B and go private.

How are you getting on? What stage are you at? Best wishes to you!

And the OP . . . how are you doing? x

BOth df and I are se. One of the reasons we chosen madrid as could fly in and out in a day tho using my own eggs

If doing de then Obv you and partner would visit /chat

He would give a sample then the clinic would match your cycle with donor - or use frozen eggs and mix with partner sperm and you fly over day 3/5 For transfer

Doesn't need to be abroad days on end

Hi Blondeshavemorefun - yes, definitely looking at that as an option, however I'm self-employed so if I spend days here and there travelling I'll lose income to the point where it works out about the same . . . Confused

Ziggy look abroad. Prices vary per clinic but prob looking at £5k rather then £8k like in uk

Report
ZiggyForever · 16/03/2017 10:28

I need donor eggs, and am currently trying to scrape together the £8k we'll need to pay for a private cycle due to the shortage of NHS donor eggs. I would give anything to be in your position right now. Stay positive - try to see it as an exciting journey, you have a decent number of eggs and there's every chance one of them could become the baby you've dreamed of . . . you're on your way to being a mummy! x

Best of luck.

This is the hardest part in my opinion so try to keep your mind busy as much as you can. I completely lost it on about day 10 of the 2 week wait. Didn't test til the proper day though. Try to remember that you and your OH are in this together- lots of cuddles.

I had a day 3 transfer. It worked. Smile

Just had the call from the embryologist - We now have 4 embryos, 2 x 2 cells, 1 x 4 cell (partially fragmented) and 1 x 6 cell (?!).

We are having a day 3 transfer tomorrow - I'm gutted as I know this means its less likely to work..

Just read your post - I remember crying when speaking to the embryologist when they said they were leaving them to progress to 5 day blastocyst. The emotional side of it all is intense.

I agree with PP ICSI is just another helping hand not a negative. I'm sat here with my 8 week old ICSI baby snuggled up after her milk.

Keep thinking about all the chances you have with the eggs they did collect rather than those that got away. You sound like you are in a good position. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone, you have helped me calm down no end!

Just had the call from the embryologist.

6 eggs were suitable for ICSI in the end and 5 fertilised normally.

Now just hoping that we have some good quality ones that make it to day 5.

I'm shaking now and my nerves are frayed, I'll be climbing the walls for the next few day!

Same here two ivf cycles four eggs collected at each cycle. Second ivf resulted in my now five year old girl. Both went to blast.

I felt the same as you at EC- we only had 2 and one didn't divide enough to be transferred in the end only had 1 egg! The odds were totally stacked against us but it worked and we now have a baby girl! Grin Good luck!

I only had 6 collected. 3 made it to 5d blasts. 1 transferred (37 weeks now) and 1 frozen.
It's a cliché - but it honestly just takes 1. Xx

Star couldn't risk going to blast

Report
Naughty1205 · 14/03/2017 22:35

At 42 I had only 3 eggs collected and was so disappointed. Could risk going to blast as we had with previous cycles, where I always got 10/11 embryos. This time I genuinely gave up hope until lab rang. 2 had fertilised and both were put back on day 3. Ds is now 13 months, and the smiliest little wrecking ball!
