Going private for fertility investigations in London?

Hello all,

My DH and I have been ttc for 12 months and I've just seen my GP to be referred for further investigations. I've already had the initial blood tests 6 months ago to see if I'm ovulating and DH has had SA test.

I am worrying about waiting times on the NHS (I am 38) and wondering if going private (if we can afford it!) would be worth it to speed things up?

I know it's hard to say for my situation but how long did you wait on the NHS and would you say it was worth going private if finances allow? I know this could be the beginning of a long road so am wondering whether to save money at first in case we need to have IVF.

Thanks so much x

I never had any investigations on the NHS, we went private from the word go: I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was younger, so knew I would have fertility issues. I was only diagnosed when I went private, as NHS didn't do the right tests and told me they didn't know why I didn't have periods, and just left it as that. One set of blood tests and a private scan I had a diagnosis.

We didn't get any investigations on the NHS as we'd gone private before the 12 months of TTC was up, because we knew I couldn't conceive without help.

The right diagnostics are so important, so I'd def recommend private if finances allow

When dh was alive it took us 18mths to get to top of list. Sadly dh died few weeks before reached the top

Areas vary. My friend did lnhs ivf at same clinic and think had 4mth wait once on the list after all tests done

Age isn't on your side so if you can afford private then seriously look at it

Abroad is cheaper then uk

We went private. An NHS referral would have been a couple of months. I called up a clinic and got an initial appointment the next day. We spent about £1k on tests (and had some blood tests done by our helpful GP to save on costs) and it was about a month from initial appointment to diagnosis (would have been quicker but my cycle fell at inconvenient times for one of the tests).

I would 10000% recommend you to get a private diagnosis. We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility on the NHS when in actual fact we had both male and female factors and would never have conceived naturally.
We saw Jaya Parikh at the Lister in August and by January I was pregnant.
