Progynova - what dose were you on?

GlummyMummy · 12/01/2017 17:21

I'm having my fourth round of IVF at the moment, first frozen cycle. We have a little girl from our first cycle. I'm 36 now. I've been down regging for three weeks and started progynova yesterday. Doctors have put me on what seems like the highest dose, 10mg per day for a week, rising to 12mg a day for the second week.

I'm a bit concerned about possible side effects (increased cancer risk and possible risk of DVT). Drs haven't really given a reason for such a high dose, just said that although my lining has got over the the required 7mm by time of ET, it's been slow to thicken during stims.

Has anyone else been on such a high dose, and if so, what was the reason and how did you feel on it?

Any info would be great, feeling a bit concerned

@glummy. Yes well worth it now pregnant but as you know each cycle we/you do it's many thousands and when fails it's a double blow

Lucky we had a few frozen from 3rd cycle so last two have been fets so def cheaper and less emotional stress as no daily injections and ec

It's awful isn't it. I know we're so lucky to have our daughter and I appreciate this so much more now that we've had these multiple failures.

As you say, fertile couples don't know how lucky they are- so unfair.

I would walk on glass if I knew it would end in a baby. But we're doing all this treatment and could still end up having gone through it all for nothing, and we'll never be able to join the parents club.

Urgh.

Tell me about it Banana! We've funded all four cycles, never mind all the supplements and acupuncture. The money doesn't even bother me that much, it's just so frustrating for us not knowing what's wrong and how we can fix it!

I'm £30,000 down easily and still no bloody baby. That's on fertility treatment and investigations not JUST IVF cycles. My ERPC and hysteroscopies were covered by insurance so that's not even including that

Fertiles haven't got a clue they're born!!

Blondes, that's such a lot of money isn't it, but well worth it. Have you found its been a long 33 weeks?

Banana, I forgot to say thanks for the message. X

Def use the frozen one. If they thought good enough to freeze then worth a shot. And as you know a fet is waaaaaaaay cheaper then a fresh cycle plus much simpler in terms of no daily injections and ec

Totally understand the cost. Df and I had to fund everything and spent £27k on 5 attempts and getting my first ever bfp and bubs 33w today

I suppose we probably will go ahead and give it one last shot. It would be our fifth cycle. I threw everything at this one so might just try the next one not taking any supplements, no acupuncture and eating junk and see how we go!

I'm so sorry Glummy

I'd not write off your BB - embryo grading doesn't mean anything

I had 'top quality' embryos that were PGS abnormal. And BBs that were euploid.

So you never know - there could be a baby on ice still

Thanks x We have one frozen left but it's only a 3bb grade so wondering if it's even worth bothering to be honest! Yes, we've had to fund all our cycles so it's been expensive and I've found it hard going doing IVF with a toddler. I suppose I wouldn't rest knowing that frozen one was still there but I think I've just convinced myself that my daughter is going to be an only child.

So sorry to hear this. Sucks

Any left frozen or you have to decide whether To do another fresh cycle

Emotionally and mentally draining let alone financially

Thanks Blondes, official test negative this morning. Having only had fresh cycles before, where I've bled 5 and 7 days after ET, it's been odd to actually have a TWO week wait proper this time! Be glad to get off the medication now, been feeling pretty tired. So back to the drawing board for us!

17days would be today then if a 5day fet

Retest tom early am pee

Ifstill showing negative then yes sadly has failed 💐💐💐💐

And with a fet you won't have af till off progynova and pesseries

Only learnt that after our 4th fet failed

I was convinced I was preg as hadn't bled by test day - had a total melt down at my doctors 😢😳😱

Thanks Blondes, how are things with you? This was a frozen cycle so no ec. 5 day blastocyst put back on 25th Jan so I'm certain the negative hpt is true :-(

I'm so sorry glummy 💐💐

I was always told to test 17days past ec. So you have two more days. I tested 3days early as was my bday and was negative even tho I didn't drink in the end

3days later bfp. First I've ever had and 32w now

Maybe wait two days just in case ......

Hi Banana, thanks for asking. I've been quiet on here as I'm getting my head around yet another failure. I'm 10 days past 5 day FET and home test is negative. Knew it was coming as I'd had several symptoms which have oddly stopped (not sure why as they must have been down to the progesterone and I'm on it till OTD Wednesday)

Allowed myself to get a glimmer of hope this time (as we all do every time I'm sure) as my lining had managed to get to 9.5mm on the HRT and embryo had thawed well. Plus lots of cramps and pulling pains 3 and 4 days past transfer which I naively put down to implantation!

So ho hum, back to the drawing board again. We still have one embryo left frozen, though it's a 6 day blastocyst 3BB so a big part of of me thinks why would this work when other better ones haven't. Think I'm just sick of the whole thing really. Had thrown everything at this attempt. And still have no idea what's wrong with us, that's the most frustrating part!

How are things with you? Was really pleased to see your recent smear was clear, great news.

Glummy how are you doing?

I kinda thought that walking around would help more with absorption, rather than lying still.

I asked my Dr about the lying down thing and he said it wasn't necessary at all, people sometimes preferred to do it because it was more comfortable, but it didn't matter from an absorption POV. He said it was mainly the coating that came out and it absorbed very quickly.

Thanks for info Blondes. It's just tricky to time 12 hours apart at a time when I have 30 mins spare to rest up.

The law of gravity 😂

I usually put am in 6/7am and as work nights would lie down and catch up on sleep

Evening would insert and lie down and watch tv

If inserted and not resting sometimes would kinda pop out /dissolve and reappear

I did mention this to clinic and they said don't worry. Normal

GlummyMummy · 20/01/2017 07:57

Wow, that's a lot of stabbing!

With the cyclogest, did you lie down to let it absorb? My clinic said this wasn't necessary, but everything I've read seems to say rest for 20mins. Does it absorb better if you're active and then blood flowing to that area?

How are you Banana? Good luck for your appointment

TBH I always wonder did the 5th attempt work as I had extra days of progyniva. An extra week as away on holiday .....

Pesseries. Didn't bother me. Prefer up the wanny then up the bum

And yes injections. Had fragments since 10/11w and possibly 6w after birth. Meaning about 300 injections :(

Cyogest brings back memories ..... the bum was slightly better from memory
But I also did intralipids and the bum injections. I think I had 3 injections daily and I was on clexane injection whole pregnancy. I was black and blue and I hate needles
Twins are hard work but amazing

I do wonder if they could have kept me going a couple more days on the progynova then, to see if it might have gone a bit over 8mm.....

Now having the joys of the cyclogest pessaries, they're weird things aren't they!?!

Fabulous-sorry to hear about your earlier loss, that must have been hard. So pleased it finally worked for you. Toddler twins must be hard work!😃
