Hi

Not sure if this is the right board but I'm hoping to go abroad for an initial consultation for ivf in February, the clinic have requested that I get a vaginal ultrasound and breast ultrasound done beforehand. In itself not a problem, but I'm struggling to find a clinic to get it done, so far the only place coming up is London, I'm north Derbyshire and was hoping to find somewhere local (Nottingham, Derby ideally but Manchester, Sheffield or Birmingham at a push)

My GP is not willing to offer any advice so can't ask them. They just said amh is to low( 0.7) I'm too old (39), anything further tests to do privately (I don't have an issue going private if i just knew where to go and she won't advise!)

I was hoping you lovely ladies may be able to recommend somewhere.

TIA

Hi zaalitje, you're in the right place.

Is your clinic NHS or private? Either way, don't they have the facilities to do the ultrasounds there? Or can't they point you in the right direction? I had a vaginal ultrasound as part of my fertility investigations (NHS, private respectively) but never had an ultrasound of my breasts! I can't see the relevance.

I'm in London so not very familiar with clinics in your area - but there is a Care clinic in Nottingham which is highly regarded and I believe a well reknowned clinic in Sheffield- use the HFEA website.

The clinic is private and abroad due to cost, they ask that we take these results with us when we go.
The breast ultrasound is requested due to speculation about ivf and breast cancer links.
I'll try Care in Nottingham, thank you. Not sure that they'll take me for tests if someone else is doing the treatment though? But worth a try.

Ah I see. Don't know much about IVF abroad but it isn't unusual to use a local clinic for scans etc so they are probably used to being asked to just do that. If your clinic can't recommend any, use the HFEA website. Good luck x

Good luck OP. Sorry to hear about the treatment from your gp. So horribly dismissive.

I had ivf abroad after cycle 1&2 failing in U.K.

I literally googled private scan clinics near me and found 5 / one literally 10mins away - they do all my scans there for fresh and fet and era and then email my clinic abroad with results

They couldn't have been more helpful

Ask your clinic if they use anyone in your area

Dildo cam aka vaginal ultrasounds are quite normal

Never needed a breast scan tho

And when 5th private ivf worked I had scans at clinic near home

At 5w (tad early and no point tbh) 7w - 16w and have one planned at 28w for 4dscan

They only deal with scans for babies so ultra up to date equipment

For the ultra sound there is one in outer London. They were fab. Did it in 3 d so my clinic in Greece had a good report. If you want the details let me know and I will try and remember name
Never had a breast scan and I did 6 cycles

Amazed your gp won't suggest 2/3 local ivf private clinics who should happily scan you

this link may find scan clinic near you

Sutton/cold field if that's near you clinic

Many thanks for the links, is not a baby scan I am after, I'm not yet preg and need an internal (vaginal) scan to check my uterus is as it should be. Basically ultrasound wand inside your vagina rather than on your stomach.
The normal scan places don't offer this. Or least not the ones I've spoken to do far.
Thank you anyway, I'll call the place you linked to see if it's something they can do or know somewhere you can.

Just look out for different places using slightly different terminology - the first link from Blondes has Fertility Scans under the women tab and the second link lists Transvaginal Ultrasound Scans.

You will get very used to transvaginal scans during the IVF process - investigations, treatment and early pregnancy scans are all internal!

Care should do it for you. I went privately for hsg with no intention of having ivf with them (different location). I did end up having ivf there privately, but at the time wasn't planning it.

Both links should give dildo cam transvag scans

Hope you find somewhere :)

I spoke to Care, both Nottingham and Derby, unless I have all treatment they won't do the tests.
Trying various private hospitals to see if they've heard of breast ultrasound. I think this is the one I'm have trouble finding!

Have you explained you are having ivf abroad ? I've never known a clinic not to scan ESP if paying for it

Double check with clinic if you need a breast exam. Never heard of one for ivf

Which clinic abroad are you using?

I'm using Biotex in Kiev. They do a package of 5 attempts for 9,900 Euro, and money back if it fails. They also seem to have decent results and have been very helpful in email exchange so far.

When I spoke to Care i did clarify I was going abroad and that i was a private paying patient to which they said they only offer the scans to patients who are having all their treatment with them.

I've found Nuture fertility in Nottingham will do the TV scan, so that's sorted.

I've asked the Ukraine clinic if I can go a day or so early and get a breast scan there as they must know somewhere local that can offer it. I've asked if it's necessary already and been told ye it is.

I had to google them as never heard of them then rings a bell that my friend may be going here as using donor eggs

Seems a very good price £8.5k for 5 goes and refund if fails

Good luck
