IVF Clinics in Europe

I am looking to have IVF abroad as it seems to be much cheaper than the UK. I have a DS who is soon to be 7 but we've been unable to conceive #2 (I'm 40 years old). In the past 5 years I have had three pregnancies which all ended in miscarriages between 6-8 weeks.

I feel that I have been dealt a double whammy as it takes me 12+ to conceive only to have a miscarriage. I have now been diagnosed with secondary infertility & IVF has been recommended. We have limited funds so can only afford one IVF cycle using my eggs and if this is unsuccessful then I will have donor eggs cycle.

Has anyone had IVF overseas? I am thinking of Czech Republic, but have also heard clinics in Spain & Greece being mentioned. From my limited research, Spain & Greece are somewhat more expensive than IVF in Czech.

If you have any information to share than please post. I am completely clueless! I'm not even sure whether I have to make 1 or 2 trips to the clinics. And once you factor in the travel costs, will it be that much cheaper than having the treatment in the UK? I have been told that an average cycle in the UK costs 6.5-7k. For the price quoted in the UK, it seems I can just about fit 2 IVF cycles overseas... or am I completely wrong?

Hi all, we're closing this thread now to prevent it from being repeatedly re-started by fertility clinic spammers. It was started back in 2014; genuine posters are welcome to start a brand new thread.

We have liaised with a number of clinics:

Serum, Embryolab, NewLife, EmBio, Invicta, Gennet, IVI, Virk Fertility centre, Bloom Fertility Clinic and one in Brussels.

After having consultation after consultation with each of them, our top three quickly became clear and our choice ended up being mainly due to the success rates for my age.

I have been unable to find any UK clinic that can beat any of the prices of the above clinics - that is with travel and accommodation factored in

Aga77 apologies, I didn’t mean any offence. Sorry you find yourself here. Unfortunately there are a lot of trolls on these boards, but sorry for being suspicious of you. I just found it a bit odd that you’d post on essentially a zombie thread 6 months after the last post about the clinic and then post much the same a month later in response to a poster (troll) who didn’t even mention the clinic you refer to.

I just am finding it so hard to pick one as it’s such a massive decision. We thankfully have no male factor problems though.....

Why I cannot express my opinion here? I am not a troll, I am going through infertility treatment.

Blondienut
I know, especially as posters who aren’t hardened old timers on here might not realise that the posts are trolls trying to advertise.

I ruled out Spain as their clinics don’t offer imsi, only icsi. If male factor isn’t an issue for you this may not be relevant. The Spanish clinics are generally really good, but more expensive than the Greek and Czech ones and some of them are huge so can feel a bit like a factory and somewhat impersonal. Their results are good though. The ones people generally recommend are institut marques, instituto bernabaeu and IVI (of which there are several in different locations).

Oh goodness lots of spammers on here, really ruins it for genuine ones.

I am heading towards ivf after trying clomid and going for initial appointment with a Greek clinic in London shortly. Feel free to pm me if you want any details.

I’ve had a good luck on line and the Spanish clinics look promising too- anyone thinking of Spain ?

Why do you need to share your opinion again though Aga77?

The last post on this thread until the troll anna appeared was yours from a month ago saying you don’t recommend it. Not sure why you need to reiterate this?

If the reason you don’t recommend it is because of the approach to the patient, you’d know this after 1 round and wouldn’t go there for another 2 rounds. If their approach was only bad on round 3, you’d just put that down to a bad experience on the 3rd round and not say the whole thing was bad.

And yep lovely bit of spam there from anna.

No, I don’t know anyone who has been to the Ukraine. I’d advise anyone considering it to avoid it as they’re unethical and dodgy and have trolls pretending to be infertile patients to advertise their services. That alone tells you how unethical they are and clearly they’re not as good as they claim if they have to resort to underhand techniques to try and recruit patients.

Besides, I have shared my opinion to help. If you don't trust my judgement you are of course free to go there and check it out spending your own money. Good luck.

I had three for one reason. I went to that clinic because they are the only one in Poland who do PGS NGS and as I am Polish myself, the accommodation was free for me. When in Poland I was just staying in my flat. The first stimulation went well but all of my blastocysts were aneuploid. After me chasing for their feedback, they recommended a so called "double stimulation". They said they were having amazing results with this procedure consisting basically in short protocol, pick-up, 5 days break and without waiting for period, the next stimulation, in luteal phase (the so called Shanghai protocol). They said in this way I would get more blastocysts for PGS testing and from the luteal phase stimulation I would get better quality & healthy embryos. It didn't work for me. They didn't provide any feedback, they didn't even call with the results. The reasons why I don't recommend this clinic are not related with the fact I was not successful. It is the approach to the client/patient they have.

I looked into transporting sperm. Our clinic had a transport company they recommended. From what they told me the sample was going to be couriered in person the whole way in order that it could be protected, i.e not being put through the x ray machine at the airport. It sounded like it was going to be really expensive.

Has anyone transported their partners sperm from U.K. to Czech Republic?
I know this can be done legally as in contact with U.K. and Czech shipping company. However our U.K. fertility clinic want to charge £350 to release the sperm and check they comply with HFEA defined criteria which I can't understand as this is a UK not EU governing body. We have already spend a lot of money with them and now I am 40 we are going to Czech as this will increase our odds. I just can't help but feel this is their last opportunity to squeeze a little more money out of us

Hi, yes you are right, ivf abroad is cheaper. Popular destinations are: Greece, Spain, Czech rep and Poland. Greece and Spain are more expensive, Poland and Czech rep are cheaper. In Czech good fertility clinics are mentioned above. Poland's and Czech ivf prices are similar. In Poland mmost popular fertility clinics are: Bocian (Bialystok) and Invicta (Gdansk, Warsaw). The second one is more comfortable for travelling, close to airports in Gdansk and Warsaw. Also the clinic employs the best embriologysts, some people even say one of the best in Europe. Both clinics have excellent labs, Invicta is more experienced in area of PGD and PGD/NGS, plus a clinic proposes eggs freezing program. In both clinics ivf prices are about 2000 Euro, Invicta has designed all inclusive programs. You will find detailed info in English with complete price lists visiting clinics websites. Hope info can help you in some way.
