Does having very little EWCM indicate low estrogen levels

Just trying to self-diagnose really. I'm 38 and been trying to conceive for over a year. At first i thought that i wasn't ovulating as i have irregular, light periods. With my last cycle i had a day 28 blood test which detected that i had ovulated and my progesterone was a good level. I think i may have just ovulated even though i'm now only on cycle day 11. On Saturday i got a 'peak reading', smiley face on a Clearblue digital ovulation test with dual hormone indicator. I noticed a small amount of creamy mucus but nothing clear and stretchy. Now i seem to be completely dry. I wonder if this lack of fertile cervical mucus is due to low estrogen levels. Or is this something that happens to allwomen in their mid to late 30s and is it possible to get pregnant with low estrogen and not having much fertile mucus.

I had absolutely no EWCM or even any CM at all the 2 times I became pregnant. In fact I'd had some in previous months but not conceived. I know it's meant to help but in my experience you can still conceive without it.

Up until 3 or 4 years ago i used to have loads of EWCM, it literally used to drip out of me for 3 or 4 days a month. I would find it in my underwear. I do try to have a root around looking for it these days, sometimes i find a tiny bit but not much. Sometimes there is a bit more when i have a bowel movement but never vast quantities of the stuff like there used to be. I have orderednsome Preseed. At the moment i am using Balance Activ fertility spray as a lube. I do think i may have low estrogen levels, thus causing a thin uterine lining. As you say, i'm sure this tallies with the light periods. My doctor thinks i could be at the perimenopausal stage which would explain low estrogen levels. although when i had blood taken a couple of months ago my estrogen levels were fine. Just my FSH which was a bit elevated at 11.3. I guess my ovarian reserves are running low causing all my problems. I had a scan on day 8 of this cycle. The consultant wanted to try me with Clomid at the start of nexy cycle. Nothing was mentioned at the scan about a thin lining, all they found was a follicle. I'm doubting Clomid will work because if i have a thin lining due to perimenopause then an egg couldn't implant anyway even if fertilised. Age is a real bummer!

Two things come to mind:

  1. Are you finding all your EWCM? Where are you looking? Sometimes it's high up and hidden, rather than just at the entrance. You may need to go looking for it....

  2. If you do have low amounts of EWCM then using lube may help. Without it, the sperm have extra work to do (since it's easier to swim through EWCM than through creamy/none). Preseed is good I think.

Low estrogen with ovulation could be a problem since your lining could be too thin for implantation. This could tally with the light periods.

Any chance of getting a scan just before you ovulate to check your lining thickness?
