Yeah, they are saying that now, but who knows what info they were working with at the time. I mean, there's no way on this earth that they would have shot him like they did unless they had something pretty strong to go on.

but they are saying he is innocent and not connected to the bombings aren't they?

heard on the BBC news that this morning that his name and address was found in one of the rucsacks found at one of the scenes.

its just all too horrifying. to think he didn't realise they were policemen, and then for that to happen - i'm speechless.

Dahlia · 24/07/2005 13:48

Well, still odd.

Report

Not his name, Dahlia - just the address. It was a rooming house probably.

fuzzywuzzy, I would have thought they couldn't risk shooting him from afar - if they suspected him of carrying a bomb then they would have to shoot at close range, and yes, they would pile on top of him, because at the end of the day, they are police and they are here to protect the public, so better that they get blown to bits rather than innocent bystanders. I didn't know til reading these various threads this morning that his name and address were in one of the rucksacks found - that is a bit odd to say the least. There is obviously alot more to this that we know at this stage.

Apparently they are told to shoot twice in the head, once at the top of the spine and once at the bottom.

Report
Tinker · 24/07/2005 13:40

I think he was shot in teh neck (not that that makes much difference)

Report
Tinker · 24/07/2005 13:39

Think people have been known to survive upto 3 shots in the head. If he went to move (and was a bomber) may not be enough time to then effectively disable him. Maybe?

ruty- they were plain clothed- ie men in jeans and trainers running towards him carrying guns (in Stockwell- which must have ine the highest rates of gun crime in the UK)- I would have run as well.

couldn't get to sleep last night thinking about this poor bloke. why didn't he stop? what a terrible environment we now all have to live in.

Certainly will have a knock on effect with tourism in Britain. Brazilian man comes to London and is shot five times.

Terrible situation, feel sorry for everybody involved, the people who shot him must be feeling terrible right now. And obviously the man's family must be devastated.

I do think the five times is a bit excessive. (just my opinion). Surely if you were in a crowd of people and a man was on the floor and he was shot just once, you'd run as far away as possible. And if bombs are detonated by having to touch them, if a man is lying on the ground not moving, surely you should not shoot unless he attempts to move.

fuzzywuzzy - their first action was not to shoot him in the head, it was to ask him to stop which he failed to do. If he had stopped he would not have been shot. If suspicion was not already high, which is clearly was as they were following him, it certainly intensified when he ran and bolted onto a tube.

I doubt we'll ever know the full details that intelligence has. They aren't going to be able to release everything they know to the general public because there is still an ongoing investigation that could be compromised.

They won't be telling us every bit of information that lead to yesterday's events.

Report
fuzzywuzzy · 24/07/2005 11:59

There are a lot of holes in the police version of events here. Would anybody pile on top of a man suspected of carrying a bomb, would anyone even let the person leave the building and go somewhere where the man could do lots of harm to the public. If they suspected him of carrying a bomb why didn't they shoot him from afar, why was he chased, surely if he'd been carrying a bomb, making their presence known to him would have increased the danger that he'd have detonated the bomb........??? His poor family

Aargh!

We don't know! We don't know what they thought they knew about him!

Hence no point surmising!

Am I the only person who can see this?!

Report
noddyholder · 24/07/2005 11:53

I am not jesting He was an innocent man in a thick coat and was probably terrified It seems strange that one man couldn't be caught by several police They followed him all the way to the station and didn't stop him en route? Why not?

Report
Janh · 24/07/2005 11:50

surely you jest, nh?

Report
noddyholder · 24/07/2005 11:49

arrested him?

Report
hunkermunker · 24/07/2005 11:48

Because if he'd had a bomb (which is what they suspected, surely - I'm not alone in thinking that they weren't doing this for shits and giggles, right?), any less and he'd still have been capable of detonating it.

Report
Gobbledigook · 24/07/2005 11:47

I think someone said on the other thread that people have survived from 3 shots and the idea was to ensure no bomb was detonated. The only way to do that, had he been carrying one, was to shoot in the head more than 3 times.
