Angelina Jolie and post natal depression

roseability · 07/09/2008 22:44

Apparently she is struggling

I am not surprised with the size of her brood and this is not meant to be a gloating thread.

I just think it would be great for mothers everywhere if she admitted this and maybe talked about it a bit at some point (of course the last thing you want to do in the throws of post partum is speak to the media!)

We could do with more 'real' mothers instead of trying to live up to unrealistic expectations

lives shouldn't be on camera anyway, but that is a whooooooole other issue

That may be. But don't voice it on camera. That adorable kid is going to see it one day. And see even more clearly the different way he was treated compared with his sister. I do understand that she is probably in a very different place from when she had him, but could she not disguise it a bit?

Yes it does.

If you are depressed, feeling like the worst person in the world and have no idea why, then grasping at straws for why it is happening is perfectly understandable

Does Katie Price's PND mean I should forgive her for her comment to Pete about Junior: "Oh give me a kid that looks like me. Then I might bond with it."

you have no idea why she had ivf, or even if she did!!

and the number of staff comments are pretty crappy too. If you have depression, all the staff in the world will not help

She denies having IVF like all the other celebs who have twins. Surely at least a few must have had some sort of fertility treatment & if so why not admit it.

pophas2boybeans · 12/09/2008 13:56

poor Angelina my arse - didn't she have IVF so that she had the possibility of having 2 or more babies at once?!!

Report
Pinkjenny · 10/09/2008 10:44

Poor Angelina - having one newborn is exhausting, I can't imagine having two at once!

I for one am sick to bloody death of all these so-called 'perfect' mothers in the celebrity world. They make me feel completely inadequate. I admire Myleene Klass for being so honest, and admitting how tough it is. Although the cynic in me still says that comment got her lots of publicity.

[bitter and twisted rant over]

brangelina are not real people in any sense. trying to emulate them is just doomed to failure

I agree with onceinalifetime - she has just had twins and it probably knackered. She may, or may not, have PND but the only person who could tell you that is Angelina and it is unlikely that she has phoned Grazia to give them the exclusive. Womens' magazines are full of shit and are designed to make us feel bad about ourselves so they can sell advertising space to products that will "cure" us of our faults.

i read this and also agree nearly wrote into grazia .. PND it may be but more likely plain knackered - I felt like death warmed up for at least 6 weeks post dd and She is my first so god knows how angelina feels...ok she has staff but that doesnt take away from fact she has given birth to twins ffs.

I do think Grazia are full of shit and doubt they really know what's going on - they seem to rely on Angelina/Jennifer Aniston/Kate Moss/Katie Holmes/Posh to supply their front covers on a revolving rota and are buggered when one of them doesn't make an appearance so imho they're just desperate for any story they can make up find. It's not hard to work out she's probably knackered and they span that into PND.

DONB - lightweight @ only 4 under 6

I don't think having a lot of kids, particularly when they're close in age does equate to "2 parents - 24hours in a day divide by number of children". They can still get the same amount of attention but it's not necessarily one-to-one. DH and I can talk to or play with more than one of our children at a time (big family convos good for when feeding the baby), stories & bathtimes are shared, we do homework together, walk the dog or swim together etc. Tis easy. But then I only have 4 under the age of 6.

But anniemac, it doesn't matter how much money you have nor how much time you can take off work to devote to your children. The equation is simple - 2 parents - 24hours in a day divide by number of children!!!

The more children the less parental time they get fact Money doesn't buy extra time!

BandofMothers · 09/09/2008 11:35

She's not just doing charity work, she is a goodwill ambassador, and she was doing that before she had the kids. I agree the staff make it easier, but I believe she is very much a hands on mum. God if I had the money I would hire people to clean and cook so I had nothing to do but look after the kids. Who wouldn't???? I think I would probably swan around the world with my brood too, if 2 can be called a brood

You're right AnnVan but look at the flak the idiot attracted, the apology he eventually issued for his comments, and the constructive example of Brooke being brave enough to talk about her PND in the media
IIRC Tom Cruise was the only person to make hostile comments
I think AJ should just be given some time and space by the gossip mags to get through the newborn chaos and exhaustion.
If she does have a dx of PND, she can always tell the world about how she got through it later, as Brooke Shields did.

Face it, who knows what the hell they did or didn't say. Take it all with a very large pinch of salt! I agree they really need to step back from adding to their brood for a fair few years now. However to be fair they aparrently do give millions to loaads of charities so I don't think they can be called up on that one (ie they don't just pluck one chld out to live in luxury).
