Can someone explain to me why this crime was so under-reported? Very upsetting story.

I'm just so surprised this is the first I've heard of it. The crime was committed in September 2022.

The circumstances were very unusual and it feels like the victim has been dishonoured by the lack of attention somehow? I don't know if I'm expressing myself correctly, but it seems to have been pretty much ignored.

It’s a terrible story
the trial was covered extensively in the national news / TV and print

It was in the news. I remember it well

I read the trial at the time. It was an awful crime and I feel so sorry for her. The three seem lacking in human feeling.

It was widely reported at the time.

When I look at Shakira's beautiful, happy, hopeful face before this happened to her my heart could break for her. What vile people they are to do such a thing.

When I read this I was sickened - it reminds of a similar case of Suzanne Capper in the '90's. I was a young student when that case hit the news and I remember crying at the absolute horror of it and so sad for her, I felt the same for Shakira. How isolated she must have felt.

If you search on google news it's been covered by all the major news outlets in the last hour. Such an awful case but widely covered

This case has been covered very extensively but some time has passed since it was all over the news - I presume there have been court delays or something.

I was just reading this and thinking about it as the circumstances are very strange. However I did hear about it at the time so it has been in the news.

@Ohyoudodoyou I remember poor Suzanne Capper too and often think of her. The people responsible for her suffering are all free from prison now which makes me angry.

I think all of them were quite socially isolated- marginal people. No one watches/cares what they are doing.

Also, she’s not white. If she were white of of greater means surely this would have been covered obsessively.

That's appalling. I hadn't heard it before but tbh I avoid the news where I can because it's starting to really get me down. I wish I could do anything to stop the awful things going on but people can be depraved.

That poor, poor woman. No-one looking out for her.

I hadn't heard of this case either. In fact this is one of three particularly appalling trials in the news today I hadn't read about before. So much unfathomable violence, it is incredibly distressing.

Yes, I know in the news now. But not in my recollection particularly in the news at the time of the crime, for example like Sarah Everard, Sabina Nessa, Julia James.

Unsolved murders which happen in public place where the police are still looking for a perpetrator for are publicised more, crimes involving police officers are publicised more.

I think in this awful case it was clear quite early on who was involved, due to confession and concrete evidence found and so they were arrested.

It was on the news as a report when it happened as it was so horrific. No need to keep putting on the news though unless in huge public interest (police involved in the crime) or they are still hunting for the killer at large and a risk to the public (Sabina Nessa).

It's tragic but there murders women every other week by partners or ex-partners that never make the news. Because they are open/shut cases I expect so not news worthy.
