Survey shows high levels of abuse of UK doctors by patients | Doctors | The Guardian
It makes me angry just reading this, my husband is a doctor and it's disgusting the way he is treated by patients and their relatives. He bears the brunt of things not going right when there are failures in the NHS or simply when somebody has been so self-destructive with their health that there is no quick-fix (or maybe no fix at all - I'm talking people who are sadly abusing drugs and alcohol and have not taken care of themselves for decades - but relatives expect the doctor to magically fix them - it's not always possible).
He has been stabbed, punched, spat at, even had blood thrown at him - these things happen regularly. Even more regular is the verbal abuse he's subjected to - being sworn at and lots of terrible accusations thrown at him. This is despite the fact he does deeply care for his patients and does everything he can to help them. He has colleagues regularly in tears and many have quit for more lucrative well-paid careers elsewhere - where they actually get to stop and eat their lunch and get a drink of water now and then. Becoming a doctor is becoming less and less attractive a career option in the UK.
FYI he doesn't work in A & E but works in general medicine in hospitals.
Wrote this quickly - apologies for bad grammar.

People under stress react that way. People who are intoxicated or mental health problems
It's always going to be an issue
And in my job it's all men.
