I loved him on Glee. It's just so sad when someone's quite young. :(

BlackMini - Yes, Glee will never be quite the same. Every time I hear a song he sang for the series, it does make me really sad. Of course, I never knew the real person either, but he he came across as someone so likable and genuine... really special amongst the sea of celebrities out there. Like in quite honest interview on a Canadian show.

And I do really, really believe it to be tragic that a choice he made as a child had such drastic effects later on. Through all the charities he supported, he seemed to really want to make a difference to those kids who may now be in the situation he found himself in many years ago. for his work with Virgin Unite. It is just sad to know that nothing could help him...

I've never considered myself to be a "mega-Gleek", so I'm quite surprised to feel so "motherly protective" over someone I've never met who isn't even that much younger than me (like a year?!).

Tasmania, such a well written post. You've managed to say everything I wanted to but couldn't put into words. I have felt sad all week and am now watching my normal sunday episode of Glee (Rocky Horror!) with a deep sense of sadness.

I still can't believe he's gone. I know I've only known his Glee character, but I've been lucky and havn't lost anyone young in my life. It's shown me how fleeting life can be and how one mistake can ruin everyone you care about's life.

A week gone by now.

I was really saddened by the news of his death, as I was secretly hoping he would be one those rare figures with a troubled childhood who could rise from it, and make his life a success. That no matter where you came from, or what past you lived, you can change your life for the better. What a great role model he would have been. But alas, I was wrong.

What made the loss of this young life particularly tragic for me was that he got into drugs when he was only a child (aged 13!!!) - far away from Hollywood limelight. He was quite open about his past. His drug use was not triggered by fame and fortune, as happens in so many cases. Instead, drugs seemed to have been part of his youth - just like playing football may be for another boy. It must be difficult for someone like him to completely avoid substance abuse. Because... who knows... maybe, you just don't know life any different?

People tend to say that he was an adult, and made the choice to use drugs. But each time I think about his untimely end, I don't see a full-grown adult taking that unfortunate and fatal overdose. I see a child with a big smile who was not given the chance at an innocent childhood, and was lured into drugs for whatever reason many years ago. That boy simply carried that addiction into his adult life. I would argue that the choice was not made by an adult, but by a child...

A child that could well be yours or mine. And that makes me shed a tear from time to time.

R.I.P. Cory Monteith.

It's just so sad it shows all the money and fame don't mean anything if you are a troubled soul. My heart aches for lea Michele I can't imagine what she is going through and I hope the press respect her privacy and allow her to grieve in peace Sad

So sad. Hmm Glee won't be the same without him. His poor family and friends having to go through everything so publicly.

The Beeb is reporting the autopsy report has confirmed an overdose of heroin and alcohol. What a terrible, terrible waste.

I don't know why this has made me so sad but it really has got to me. Glee is my secret pleasure on a sunday afternoon and I always thought Cory seemed like such a nice guy. Everytime I hear he died alone, I feel a little punch to my stomach. No one should be alone when they die.

I have only seen rumours that they were to be married in two weeks. Nothing offical.

Not that is makes a difference to the devastation of his loss.

I am have been sad all day.

from 2.37 mins...loved his audition tape (No singing although he can sing, no dancing although - no he really couldn't dance, that was written into the script)

and I loved the fact he had a normal voice - sings like my other half

and in interview very likable

Hadn't realised he had addiction problems for so long. Such a tragedy.

Yes, according to the Beeb article he first received treatment for drug addiction when he was 19, so it pre-dates his fame by quite some time.

It is a terrible waste of a young life. Fame seems to be a very damaging thing for young people.
