Not arrested by Yewtree officers but the allegations came through that probe.

there appears to have been a culture in which the rich and famous could get away with anything sexually. It needs cracking. But there will be casualties.

It almost seems as if it's easier to count the 1970s light entertainment celebs who have not been arrested/questioned than those who have... I'm glad that allegations are finally being taken seriously, after decades of victims being frightened/ashamed/bullied/treated with hostility by the very people who should protect them - police officers, social workers and so on. That doesn't mean any of the people being questioned are guilty, of course, until any trial is over/suspects have pleaded guilty e.g. Stuart Hall.

I think it's a case of not wanting to believe it. How could that nice, funny man we all used to laugh at actually be a monster?

I'm just pleased that people are being believed. I do think if someone is found to be innocent then as big deal should be made of it.

I grew up watching these people. I don't think it is a witch hunt. I think justice is better late than never. I just wish savile hadn't got away with it.

Keep hunting out these criminals.

Brave people, keep reporting your experiences-you will now, finally, be heard.

I cant believe some of what I've read on here. Sad Would it be a 'witch hunt' if the victim was you or one of your family? That stupid, uneducated attitude sickens me.
However, do bear in mind that nobody has been convicted yet, apart from the repulsive Stuart Hall.

Exactly Booyhoo, the reason why people didn't want to come forwards if exactly for those 'well he's so nice' reasons. Who's going to believe that this lovely entertainer sexually abused me?'

i agree noddy and spar

if this was a 'non celeb' paedophile ring being exposed and more and more people being arrested, people would be shocked yes but you wouldn't hear these cries of 'witch-hunt' (which seems to be 'the phrase' for this whole thing).

so whist i accept it is difficult for people to come to terms with the fact that people they grew up in awe of might be involved i think people need to be realistic about this and stop romanticising these people as if it's impossible for them to be guilty because you 'knew' them.

if allegations are made the police have to investigate. the police dont just decide to rock up at the homes of whatever celebs names they can remember from the 70's and arrest them to fill a quota.

witch hunt Hmm Angry

No, its about victims of abuse finally being heard and believed, the men arrested may or may not be guilty but they are not above being abusers, they are not above being questioned just because they were some sort of celeb back in the day.

Im glad to see arrests and Im glad that women and men who have had to live with this horrible secret of being abused are being taken seriously.

I suppose as a young person [I'm 23] I didn't grow up with these people as some others did.

I agree with Sparhawk.

I think people miss the point that these are well loved individuals. They are trusted. They are liked. It's betrayal of all of us not just the victims.

Therefore if its them, who else could it be? Mum? Dad? Uncle? Etc?

It's shocking because these wolves were in our living rooms. A lot. Even after writing all that part of me still hopes its not true. As of course monsters are other nasty looking things, not nice men. So hard, I know it, still hope otherwise though...

I feel the more they are exposed the less people believe it rather than the other way round Sad. It is like compassion fatigue with disasters and war etc soon people will barely register it which is what I think they are hoping for before they have to expose the big guns (politics)

It does seem like it's one after another.

But all there is at this stage is an arrest.

Report
noddyholder · 07/05/2013 15:24

I agree spar it is not a witch hunt it is a criminal investigation where the victims have suffered in silence for years! I sometimes get the impression that it is inconvenient for the general public to have to accept that these 'heroes' are in fact abusers. Niceness/fame/comedic value do not mean they aren't guilty

I am wondering who will be next.

Report
Sparhawk · 07/05/2013 15:17

I agree with Kitty this whole 'it's a witch hunt' pisses me off. The victims of celebrity pedophiles have finally realized they will be believed and are coming forward and people are complaining about it.

I'll reserve my sympathy for when he's shown to be guilty or innocent, besides, when Stuart Hall was arrested people were going on about how nice he was and how they couldn't believe it. As if niceness has never been used as a cover to abuse.
