Why would you do this? It's hard enough to get a rape conviction without people like this making a mockery of the system.

No - saying that one person might have done something because she has mental health problems is in no way saying all people with mental health problems do awful things!

We can have no idea what made her do this. Imo it is highly likely that she has had a rotten life and has mental health problems. I'm allowed to say that. I'm not saying that there can be no other explanation.

This doesn't mean that she is 'mentally ill'. It's quite insulting to people with mental health problems to suggest that someone that lies like this must only do it because they are mentally unwell.

'Bad' people do exist. They don't have to have a co-morbid mental illness.

NomNon it's bad for all, both falsely accused and the people who are raped and attacked who get no justice. Caring about one does not mean you don't care about the other.

it probably is the case that prison is a waste of time for someone like this. but prisons are full of people who are mentally ill, aren't they?

and now we will have the chest beating for the falsely accused (and i am sure it is shit for them), as though this was a problem equivalent to the endless numbers of those who are raped and receive no justice.

Her having a mental illness was not used as a defense in her case. Saying ''well nobody of a sound mind would go around accusing men of rape'' is not an argument for her being spared prison for her crimes.

Most people do not commit horrific crimes like murder or rape. You cannot excuse those that do just by applying the logic that they must be mentally ill - especially if there is to evidence to suggest as such.

A lot of people have terrible childhoods and traumatic experiences. It's not a excuse for actively trying to ruin other peoples lives.

'I doubt it! Who else do you know - who is of 'sound' mind - would do something like this?'

The woman DECIDED to LIE...she was NOT ILL at the time!

She would have had full Mental Health Assessment by her defence Lawyer which would have proved no responsibility due to an illness...but their was no ILLNESS!

Stop blaming it on MENTAL ILLNESS when it is just pure NASTY EVIL thing to do....

Your giving people with Mental Illness a very low opinion associating them with a person like this piece of scum!

I know a lot of people with Mental Illness and they are lovely people who are unwell not TWISTED NASTY like this Woman!

funny how these stories always get more publicity (and harsher sentences) than stories showing how much sexual violence is never reported and rarely gets a conviction when it is.

I feel very sorry for her victims, as I feel sorry for genuine victims of rape. She deserves prison and I hope she can get some guidance there to turn her life around.

I've been in care and I'm had a shit childhood but I do go round accusing men of rape

Some people are just nasty plain and simple

Report
niceguy2 · 05/03/2013 22:22

I'm actually amazed there are so many MN'ers who think she shouldn't go to prison.

If there was any evidence of mental illness then I'm sure her defence would have used that in mitigation. Having a disturbed childhood and having been in care is not a valid excuse for what she did. She had a hard life....so did many other people. Doesn't mean they are responsible for their actions.

I think everyone agrees that rape convictions are painfully lower than they should be and cracking down hard on those who falsely cry rape is a must. Because it's women like her who make it 10x harder for legitimate rape victims to get justice. Not to mention the poor bastard who's been falsely accused.

'She was in sound mind when she made this up...'

I doubt it! Who else do you know - who is of 'sound' mind - would do something like this?

Anyway, it's impossible to know anything for sure about this story.

A very damaged human being. Sad

She was in sound mind when she made this up according to that article. She said it was because she didnt like him...their is no delusional symptoms in that! No Mental Illness!

If she does have a Mental Disorder like Boarderline Personality Disorder, if this is the case prison is the best place also because of the forensic psychiatry will treat her and help rehabilitate/monitor her to return to society.

She not only has caused a back step for real victims of rape but for people with Mental Illnesses too, who really are ill!

'But how can a 13-year-old make a false allegation of rape if sexual intercourse has taken place?'
I might be wrong but I think, that only sex with under 13s is classed as rape. Consensual sex with older children is sex with a minor.

Report
bangwhizz · 04/03/2013 13:37

The article says she has made 10 false allegations, and the latest one was to get back at aboyfriend she had arged with.

Report
bangwhizz · 04/03/2013 13:35

Most people in jail are mentally ill though.

Report
amillionyears · 03/03/2013 14:07

She is clearly very ill.

Report
Solopower1 · 03/03/2013 13:59

But how can a 13-year-old make a false allegation of rape if sexual intercourse has taken place?

Clearly a very disturbed individual, who has had a horrible life. Prison is absolutely not the best place for her. What will that achieve?

I feel sorry for any man who has a woman accuse him falsely of raping her, and it is totally unfair that he had to go through that. But prison is unlikely to stop her doing it again to someone else, imo, whereas if she received proper psychiatric care and attention, it might.

I believe that women who do this should get the same sentence as a rapist.

And no more excuses for her. Please.

Does she have a mental illness/ disorder? Where is this info in the report?

I don't doubt this woman has had experiences in life that have badly affected her and these false accusations are the result of that, also I doubt prison is the answer but what, or who, is prison the answer for?

I think some things in life are worthy of punishment, and as far as I'm concerned that is all prison is good for. I'm alright with that. Separate rehabilitation would be even better but alongside, not instead.

Rapist, domestic abuser, drug dealer, burglar, arsonist, drink-driver, they all will have ended up where they are due to past experiences to some extent or another. Quite often some kind of MH issue will be present. I'd like them to be rehabilitated, I'd also like them to be punished.

I don't feel any different about this woman and what she's done. She deserves to be punishment, her victims also deserve her to be punished.

It's galling though the amount of vitriol this RARE sort of case attracts. High-fives all round for the rape apologists Hmm

Report
BMW6 · 28/02/2013 19:54

If this womans behaviour can be excused as "she is surely disturbed", then rapists themselves can surely claim the same compassion?
Most men do not commit rape, therefore surely something traumatic happened in their childhood to cause this behaviour and prison is no place for them?????
Hmm

Prison is fairly pointless in most cases. Most prisoners could do with treatment of one sort or another, most don't get it. Don't see that there's any difference in this case.

Prison is pointless in such a case. She needs treatment
