We've moved to a very hard water area and are constantly battling limescale buildup on the shower screen - any tips for getting rid of it?

Limescale build up is the thing to tackle once you have cleaned the shower in any one of the ways mentioned above. Once thoroughly cleaned and dry, spray the glass with furniture polish and buff so the glass has protective surface - water won't stick to it and your cleaning efforts last a lot longer. Make sure you avoid getting the furniture spray polish on the shower floor as it will become dangerously slippery.

Vinegar, or lemon juice.
Sainsbury's do a really good limescale remover if it's really tough.

Cheap, clear vinegar is the cheapest and best way to get rid of limescale. Just put it into a plant spray bottle, then apply to the glass and leave for up to half an hour and rinse/wash clean.

I clean the seal with Ecover bathroom cleaner (to get rid of the soap scum), limescale remover and a toothbrush!

I'm not keep on industrial type chemical - thoughI have been moved to use them on occasion out of despair.
But now I would suggest: wipe down with an e-cloth specifically for shower screens. Once a week use some white vinegar on it ( keep an old spray top bottle to help you do this)

I imagine the WD40 works in the same way as Mr Muscle's Shiny Shower stuff works - by putting a film on the screen so the scum doesn't stick to it!

Another grolly in this house is the plastic seal at the bottom of the shower screen - I am SO sick of wrenching it off and bleaching all the icky stuff out of it!!! Bleeeeeeeeeerk!

Oooooooooo how weird , I was just coming to post a similar thread!!!

Our screen is vile! I visited family at the weekend and their screen is just perfect (grrrr!) Grin

So it seems like they squeedgee after every shower AND in their bathroom cupboard was a bottle of WAITROSE's essential bath and shower cleaner!

Went to get some this morning and have just attacked our screen - very impressed!!! Especially as it is dirt cheap too!

I use salt on a washing up sponge to get rid of it. If have time also rinse down with washing-up liquid in water. Then sqeejee to maintain and occasional repeat performance.

Thanks everyone - got the squeegee and will try some of your suggestions for clearing what's already there.

We have a strict squeegee regime in my house, which works pretty well. I really don't enjoy it though.

Hmm maybe that's where I went wrong - I used original CB when it first came out - was so unimpressed that I've not even used the rest of the bottle up!

I use baby oil for the stainless steel in my kitchen. Of which there is loads, the previous owners seemed to like the industrial look Hmm

Actually cillit bang grime and lime has the added advantage of leaving the glass streak free so no need for glass cleaner but it has to be grime and lime the other stuff doesn't work.

We live in a very hard water area and I find Bath Power, the citrussy, Aussie cleaner very good at clearing limescale. Smeels nice too !

Moonbells, I'm surprised you say that! Our water is practically liquid chalk and I find Cillit Bang Grime and Lime an awful lot better than Viakal...

Interested by the HG Hagesan Blue though...

(just don't use Cillit Bang - it's totally useless in chalky areas!)
