I have tiled between my sink and the mirror in my dark downstairs loo in a rather rash purchase of bright orange metro tiles. We have black IKEA floating shelves and lots of hanging things in the room. What colour should I paing to the walls? The rest of the house is blues and greens.

Orange and Navy won the day.

I'd probably go for white.

YY to turquoise- inspired by DS currently getting dressed in orange shirts and a turquoise T shirt! I think turquoise completes the statement.

Turquoise worked beautifully for my parents in the 70s apparently - mum still talks wistfully about the decor in that sitting room.

Our bathroom is bright orange and we have gone for grey accessories/towels which I think look great.

It's not finished yet but I'll go and take a picture.

Thanks all, i indeed do want to avoid the 'rash decision and lost my nerve' look!! Its already white and indeed quite dull. Love the idea of turquoise.

The hanging things is a line of hooks with sports bags, on it. We use the downstairs loo to store lots of things to avoid it all being piled in the hallway, as a result it is rather cluttered.

What are the hanging things, by the way? Presumably there's colours involved.

Navy and orange is a really nice combination. Grey would work too, but you'd have to be careful getting the right grey.

I don't like black, white and orange unless it's really really over-styled, so I'd avoid white paint with your black shelves.

Or green? Olive or forest and paint the shelves too so they disappear.

I wouldn't go for white.
I think Orange is a wonderful statement colour and white is very safe.
I would team it with some of the suggestions like Navy or Grey.otherwise it looks like you were being bold and then lost your nerve.

turquoise? They are the opposite colours on a colour wheel so should go nicely

White?

Dark grey? Navy? Love metro tiles! See how it looks with nothing on the walls before rehanging?
