Hi all we are off to travel round Texas for a couple of weeks soon. Any recommendations for things my dd10 and dd12 should do/try whilst we are there? Thanks

The stockyards at Fort Worth
Austin: people watching on SoCo, the Bob bullock museum, Barton Springs, Enchanted Rock park.
Head into hill country to LBJ ranch.
Galveston on the Gulf coast.
Enjoy, Texas is fantastic.

Near Houston, there’s a place called George Ranch Historical Park ranch.org George Ranch that we went to a couple of years ago. It’s divided into 4 time periods and “..features historic home tours, costumed interpreters, hands-on activities, cattle working and blacksmithing demonstrations and more.” (Quoted from the website). It was a fun day out, there was a battle reenactment on the day we went, lots to learn, and we saw a gator!

The Space Centre is a must-do, Houston Zoo was also fun.

Galveston, down on the Gulf Coat south of Houston, is also worth a trip. Nice beaches, houses right on the beach on stilts, historical area (the strand) for a wander round.

Also, if you’re road tripping, factor in stops at some Buc-ee’s on the way!

The vast countryside around the vinyards was so beautiful, I keep meaning to go back there. I've also googled Luckenbach since posting, I'm tied and did not describe it well at all! I meant it's kind of like a little ghost town, anyway, it was also something I thought I'd like to revisit someday.

Their vinyards are fabulous, you can have some great meals there too.

Luckenbach is a neat little mostly dead old village but it hosts live music nights and is a cool place to stop off.

I’d really recommend going to the rodeo in Dallas, well it’s a way south at the stockyards

Get there early about 3:30 to get parked and quickly go through to see them bring the cattle through the nicked up old town

The BBQ grill is particularly good here, so we eat before the rodeo

Southfork is ok, I used to watch Dallas so it was fun

From San Antonio you could drive over to Fredericksburg, a little bit of German influence and vineyards around there for wine tasting

Grapevine up near Dallas has Great Wolf Lodge with an indoor water park and activités

Dallas cowboys stadium tour. Even if not into NFL the sheer size and tour is interesting.

Visiting Dealey plaza, the book depository and the grassy knoll are interesting and a bit poignant. Its sad you can see the crosses in the road.

Isn't there theme parks too- six flags.

See if you can go to a dude ranch for a couple nights. I can’t recommend any as I haven’t been but I know they’re popular and book up fast

Dallas: book depository (JFK), go over to Fort Worth. I seem to remember we took a train somewhere here and they drive longhorns down the street at a certain time

San Antonio: river walk, Alamo, sea world, six flags

Austin: there is a bridge bats fly out from, Barton springs < awesome and very cold

Houston: the zoo, plenty of museums, go to Brazos bend state park to see gators, space centre (about an hour drive)
