Norwegian Fjords - Good for cruise virgins?

My husband and I really fancy the Norweigan Fjords cruise, however have never been on a cruise before. We like the idea of having a relaxed cruise and seeing various destinations along the way. The whole 'cruise' thing with its "tips ' and ' gratuities' has got me a little confused and the prices vary so much. We're looking to go late September . Any tips and advice for newbies?

We have done 14 and I cant wait for the next
Plan your own trips, Cruise critic forum is a great source of info.
If you want sun go to the Med. We really enjoyed the Fjiords and would go back.
When you board the ship as for Gratuities to be removed as you want to pay your own, Cruise critic will tell you.
Its a great way to see lots of different places.

i have been on Celeb and virgin and P&O, on all of them i prepaid tips and it was just DONE. I paid nothing more. (virgin tips are included in the price)

Norwegian cruise was good, you get 2 days at sea at start and end, that crossing was quite rough but the sickness passes. Then 4 days of going off each day for a tour or DIY. Loads of cruise lines do that iternary, May-September so just need to pick a ship thats right for you (i like massive ships with loads of dining options including casual pizza type places). I am not fussed to have fixed dining in formal dress (but don't mind being smart casual, like you'd be in a nice restuarant)

I have been on many cruises and my favourite is the Fjords. There are a few cruise lines going to the Fjords this year. The cheapest prices you see advertised are for an inside cabin on the lower decks. Personally I always go for a balcony cabin which is quite a lot more but to be able to sit on your balcony and watch the scenery is worth the extra expense. Of course you can sit out up on deck if you want to. Regarding tips and gratuities, sometimes these are included in the price quoted but some cruise lines add them on as extras,. You can opt out of paying if they are not included, just go to reception and ask them to take them off your account. I personally prefer the smaller ships but it depends on what your lifestyle is, do you like formal evenings or more relaxed. My advice is to look at the various web sites of the cruise lines where you will be able to get a good idea of what they offer. I think the Fjords is an excellent choice for a first cruise, I have been at least 6 times and all being well will be going again in June. Good luck and I hope you can find something you like.
