Mauritius, anyone been, or have long haul tips with 2 wee ones

As we didn't manage any summer holiday this year as ds2 was born in august and we get the Swedish winter, we seem to be thinking we deserve a bit of a knees up next year. Mauritius is looking pretty attractive for March, partic in comparison to the Canaries, time changes in comparison to the States and little worry about malaria pills.

Anyone know anything about these things?

Not sure about flights from your neck of the woods - but from here you can do night flights on both legs which makes life easier. Might be the same for you. (Not that I've ever been - but have friends who have!)

Been twice in the last few years... Stayed at the Paradis on the SW corner, and the Beau Rivage on East Coast. Both very good. Had ds in tow both times.
Thought the childcare very good in both places, service "more" than excellent in Beau Rivage, but (free) water skiing at the Paradis with tuition. You also get the sunsets on the west coast. Check out the wind conditions, too. We styed at B. Rivage end june/ beg july and found it almost too windy. Couldn't lie on beach and read... pages kept flapping about!! Paradis a month earlier was better, but still a nice breeze.

Oh, and another tip - hotels that have recently opened tend to be cheaper, which is why Beau Rivage is now out of our league!!

Malmomum, we used to go for drinks here when we were on this beach. Seem to remember it was cheapish compared to usual Mauritius hotels. It looked OK but I haven't been inside. Villas Caroline is here

Malmomum, my parents lived there as expats for years. You're right, although they recommend malaria tablets etc we never took them when we went to visit. It's beautiful, hot, friendly, and need not be as expensive as you might think. The govt there likes to keep it 'exclusive' but I'm sure you can go there reasonably cheaply if you know how. Will ask more of my mum and get back to you.
