Where can we stay in Croatia?

Our last two summer holidays have been very full on, lots of driving, sightseeing and doing things etc. This summer we want a relaxing holiday especially as dd1 will have just done her GCSEs and will want to chill.

Dh is very keen on Croatia. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel? Somewhere on the coast with beautiful views and a good swimming pool.

Also where can you fly from? Our nearest airports are Luton, Stansted or Heathrow (hate Gatwick).

Dc will be 16, 14 and 10.

I went two years ago and stayed in the Dubrovnik area.

The hotel was Grand Park in Lapad area. It was in a small resort -just a 10 min bus ride (or 30 min walk) into Dubrovnik old town.

The beach is pebbles - but the water is lovely and clear.

Boat trips out to the smaller islands are popular - also kayaking. The old town is interesting to all ages- especially for Games of Thrones fans

We didi take a trip over to Cavtat - which was another beach resort - but farther away from much action. Very nice though - maybe not enough for the DC.

I travelled with out DC so can't comment on activities.

I think there's one sandy beach in croatia! Take swim shoes and it's fine. The water is so clear. It's a beautiful country.

Thank you, I'm not that fussed about sand, my lot prefer the pool anyway, I was just wondering.

Can't help with hotels, but would recommend a couple of nights in Split. It's a real must-see and, a short walk away is a great swimming area. Not sandy but off rocks, but great. Then catch a ferry to Korcula. I love it so much that I'm reluctant to recommend it. You can island hop indefinitely. Zagreb, the capital, is lovely, but perhaps not what you're looking for. Dubrovnik has been ruined by the cruise ship tourism, forget it.

There is a beach with imported sand just outside the walls of the old town.
We went to miljet for a day and hired bikes and swam in the lake.
I loved Croatia - it was lovely.

We stayed in Brela which is a little village about an hour or so away from Split, and fairly close to Makarska. It was so quiet and peaceful which was perfect for what we wanted, but may be a little too quiet for teenagers. Our hotel didn't have a swimming pool but it was right on the beach - the doors literally opened onto the beach. The beaches are shingle and we bought some rubber soled beach shoes on the second day to protect our feet. The sea is so clear though - the best we've seen in Europe. We did a few day trips - Split, Omis and Dubrovnik - all of which were lovely. We would have liked to have gone to the lakes as well but we'd ran out of money by that point.

Possibly Korcula, but other islands might provide a good base.

Hotel Lone in Rovinj plus many other hotels in Rovinj (they're all owned by the same cartel group) are all great and the town and area are stunning, lots of good food and shopping, so great for teenagers. Not cheap, however and Croatia definitely not the place for sandy beaches ...

Yes, huge pool good for kids as shallow, and indoor pool too.

Sorry to hijack, but looking for a 4 bed villa in Split area, within walking distance of amenities as taking teenage daughters who would like there independence, can anyone recommend anywhere.
